A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.
D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our
government is
spending it.
While this thought is still fresh in your mind, consider that
Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the Congress for
$250 billion to
rebuild New Orleans. Interesting number, what does it mean?
Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman,
child), you
each get $516,528.
Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your home gets
$1,329,787.
Or, if you are a family of four, your family gets $2,066,012.
And, for those of you who think you're only paying income tax, consider the
following:
Accounts Receivable Tax
Building Permit Tax
Capital Gains Tax
CDL License Tax
Cigarette Tax
Corporate Income Tax
Dog License Tax
Federal Income Tax
Federal Unemployment Tax (FUTA)
Fishing License Tax
Food License Tax
Fuel Perm it Tax
Gasoline Tax
Hunting License Tax
Inheritance Tax
Inventory Tax
IRS Interest Charges (tax on top of tax)
IRS Penalties (tax on top of tax),
Liquor Tax,
Luxury Tax,
Marriage License Tax,
Medicare Tax,
Privledge License Tax
Property Tax,
Real Estate Tax,
Service charge taxes,
Social Security Tax,
Road Usage Tax (Truckers),
Sales Taxes,
Recreational Vehicle Tax,
School Tax,
State Income Tax,
State Unemployment Tax (SUTA),
Telephone Federal Excise Tax,
Telephone Federal Universal Service Fee Tax,
Telephone Federal, State and Local Surcharge Tax,
Telephone Minimum Usage Surcharge Tax,
Telephone Recurring and Non-recurring Charges Tax,
Telephone State and Local Tax,
Telephone Usage Charge Tax,
Utility Tax,
Vehicle License Registration Tax,
Vehicle Sales Tax,
Watercraft Registration Tax,
Well Permit Tax,
Workers Compensation Tax.
And if Washington isn't already getting enough of our money, the latest
projection is that Obama wants to raise taxes hundreds of billions of
dollars to pay for his proposed increases in entitlement, welfare and give
away programs and to grow the federal government to administer them. And I
still have to "press 1" for English.
Irish Mike
I've got it! "A billion" is the number of times that Irish Mike has
cut & pasted junk email into RGP.

Well, your cronies in the White House have gotten us into a quagmire
called IRAQ that has cost the US taxpayers 519 billion (Congressional
Budget Office numbers). For what? 4000 US soldiers killed, tens of
thousands maimed, a puppet 'democracy' that the people likely don't
want or know how to run, A haven and breeding ground for Al Queda, and
lately, in the south of IRAQ we now have a nice fertile breeding ground
for IRANIAN meddling which is killing US soldiers with IRANIAN weapons
smuggled into Iraq. Nice job shit-for-brains. Mission Accomplished!
Then you falsely assume the money is simply going to get split up to
the population of New Orleans, making it look like some huge welfare
program giving the poor black people millions each (which is really
your motivation for complaining, I bet if they were re-building some
redneck city you wouldn't mind).
The more I read from you the more I'm convinced you are a simpleton
fuckwad. Your ignorance speaks volumes. Did you get dropped on your
head when you were little?

Funnier still, he's too stupid to realize that "A. A billion seconds
ago it was 1959. " is wrong. A billion seconds ago, it was 1976.
Forget the fact that he consistently posts without regard to putting
"OT" in the title, which is just common courtesy. What a no talent
assclown.
Only if that claim was made 1990-1991.
> B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
Only if you were doing the math circa 1933.
> C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.
OK. This one works.
> D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
False. Try 2 billion days and you're OK.
> E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our
> government is
> spending it.
Not for nothin' Mike, but this list is not only as old as the hills,
the math isn't even right on most of them.
Funny, I thought they were Brazilian.
- Bob T.
Not mentioning anything else, but that makes it OK?
Actually, it was 1976. See, that's what happens when you just cut and
paste garbage without actually taking a second to think about it or
confirm it. I'll bet that happens to you a lot Mike.
> B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
Well, no. You're wrong there too unless you're referring to the
concept that Jesus still lives today spiritually through the
resurrection. A billion minutes would take us back to about 113 AD. A
good 70 years after Jesus' mortal body departed our earth according to
most accounts.
> C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.
You're getting closer. Actually the Old Stone Age, but close enough
that I'll give you this one.
> D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
This one's close... new discoveries of Australopithecus afarensis date
them back to well past the billion day mark. There's still some debate
about whether or not they were mainly bipedal or not, but it seems
fairly clear that they at least walked on two legs some of the time.
> E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our
> government is
> spending it.
Wrong yet again. This may have been true at one point, but thanks to
Bush's inability to veto any spending bill in the first 6 years from
his Republican counterparts in congress no matter how much garbage was
attached to it, and thanks to an expensive war our national budget is
now more in the neighborhood of $2.8T (for 2007 anyway). That puts a
billion dollars at more like 3.1 hours.
Not a very good start there Mike.
> While this thought is still fresh in your mind, consider that
> Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the Congress for

If by presently, you mean that they asked for it 2 and a half years
ago then you might be right. I don't consider 2 and a half years ago
to be the present myself.
Yes, things are taxed. There's often a reason for it of course one of
which is that the government needs money to operate. Levying taxes is
a specified right of the Congress. Don't you believe in the
constitution Mike? You're so unamerican it makes me sick.
> And if Washington isn't already getting enough of our money, the latest
> projection
Ahh, a projection! Of course, there's no attribution for this
projection. I heard that someone somewhere projected that we would all
have flying cars by now. I want my flying car damnit!
> is that Obama wants to raise taxes hundreds of billions of
> dollars to pay for his proposed increases in entitlement, welfare and give

And do you think that declaring English the national language will
change that? Do you think that all of the businesses out there who
have decided based on capitalist principles that it's in their best
interest to include multiple languages in their phone systems will
suddenly decide that they should lose money and go to all English
systems? Do you think that the government should require all
businesses to be English only? That sounds rather un-capitalistic to
me. You know who else puts language requirements on businesses in
their country? The French Mike. Do you want to be like the French? I
knew you were unamerican.
I personally don't find it very difficult or time-consuming to press
one extra number in a voice-mail system. Do you?
- Bob T.
- Bob T.
Not at all. That isn't the point. I don't think we should have to.
I lived overseas for a number of years, and never once did I have an option
to push any number for English.
> I personally don't find it very difficult or time-consuming to press

That's not the point, you fucking asshole. You're getting to be as bad as
BillB.
What if our country was being invaded by a bunch of white people from South
Africa, and the recordings said, "Press 1 for English, Press 2 for
Afrikaaner"? Then would you have a fucking problem with it, Bob? You're
just a whiney sniveling little white-guilt liberal pussy who feels so sorry
for the poor brown people. I know your kind, Bob. I guarantee you if my
scenario about pressing 2 for Afrikaaner was a reality that you would have a
fucking problem with it. Don't lie, bitch.

Question: How much is the Iraq war currently costing US taxpayers?

First of all, why are you addressing this to ME? I didn't post this thread.
And second of all, you're the one in the smoking thread who keeps saying
that "you was quit smoking". WHO THE FUCK TALKS LIKE THAT? What the fuck
is wrong with you? You QUIT smoking, not you WAS QUIT smoking. You're no
one to be talking about millions or billions or anything else grammatical,
you illiterate cretin. And no matter WHAT planet you are from, Bea Foroni,
a billion is NOT a million millions. QUIT FUCKING WITH MY HEAD! Not WAS

Yeah, but not just any projection, the _latest_ projection. So all you
have to do is assemble all the projections, along with the dates they
were made, and determine which was latest,
"a cardinal number represented in the U.S. by 1 followed by 9 zeros,
and in Great Britain by 1 followed by 12 zeros. "
Defination supplied by dictionary.com or something close to it.
I have been quit for 1 Month, 3 Days, 3 hours, 48 minutes and 16

What are you, some kind of Communist? Why do you hate businesses

Well this is pretty easy to explain. The fucking Brits have it WRONG,
that's all. If it has 12 zeroes, then it is a TRILLION! What the fuck is
wrong with those people?

No, you haven't BEEN quit for 1 month, 3 days, 3 hours, and whatever. Maybe

I like it. It's got a nice ring to it.
PDS
> Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your home gets

How much do you think it costs to run water, sewer, electricity,
gas, roads, etc. to each home?
How much do you think it costs to build schools, hospitals,
post offices, police stations, fire stations, sewage treatment
plants and other infrastructure to support those residents?
How about grocery stores, shopping malls, gas stations, parks,
museums, restaurants, hotels, and the other things that make
up a city?
Should the government assist in the rebuilding of all of those
things? Maybe. Some for sure, some maybe not. Still, it's
not like you can just build houses and then be done with it--
the infrastructure fairy doesn't just wave her wand and make
the rest of it appear.
Still, it seems reasonable to me to pay less than 5% of the
cost of the Iraq war to rebuild New Orleans.

I feel for you Paul, I do. The other day I was using the self-checkout
at a new grocery store. I walked up and scanned my item and nothing
happened. In most of these things that I've seen you scan something
and it knows you're trying to start a transaction so it takes the scan
and continues on. If there's a language choice, they usually just
assume English and don't bother you. Not this one though. It wouldn't
let me scan anything until I pushed the "English" button on the touch
screen. Damn that pissed me off!
In the end though, it's like Jacks says... if it's going to make the
company money to add a Spanish option, they're going to give a Spanish
option. I agree, if they were smart about it they would assume English
if you did nothing, and most of the ones I've dealt with do just that.
My guess is that the ones that don't do that were written by people
who weren't on the ball. For the ones that don't, you can always tell
them that you're going to take your business elsewhere if they don't
change. Not that it will do anything, but you can try it.
Hi, Poopinpants
Government spending has increased under your republican president at the
fastest rate in decades. It increased by a third in his first term alone.

I dunno, but at least it's in America! How much has your republican
president spent on rebuilding a country all the way around the world? A
country he tore down, in the first place?
> And if Washington isn't already getting enough of our money, the latest

Well, your republican president gave all our money to private contractors
and foreign countries, without having any means at all to pay for it, but
I guess that's okay with you.
Obama will tax the shit out of the windfall profits oil companies are
making, I'm not aware that he is going to raise taxes at all on middle
class and below Americans.
But please, don't bother to think. I don't even see why understanding
English makes any difference to you. Irish Mike, you understand the world
in terms of two letters only. (R) and (D).

This one appers to have been cut and pasted from the Log Cabin Democrat in
Conway , Arkansas, except he cut out the actual final paragraph of the
article and added his usual false attacks on Obama.
The actual last paragraph of the article is interesting (longing for the
good old days of 1908 when there were no women in the workforce!! and the
stupid broads couldn't vote either!):
"Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, in 1908, and our nation was
the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had
the largest middle class in the world and Mom stayed home to raise the
kids."

I dont mind paying them to move to a place that Mother Nature doesn't
erase every 70 or so years. With the increases in unfrozen icecaps in our
environment it seems to me that rebuilding in a flood zone is a bad idea.

I don't know about you, but here in SoCal when I call a number that has
options for English and other languages (around here usually Spanish) they
just say "For English, stay on the line, para continuar en Espanol, marque
dos". Not very hard to just stay on the line.
