Of course the 'thank you' reason stated is complete bollocks. With the
Euro less than 80p and Euromillions tickets in Europe costing less than
£1.60p, that means over 20p per ticket sold in the UK is going into the
millionaire raffle fund.
Take last Friday's draw. There were 0.97 million prizewinners in the UK,
meaning approximately 12.6 million tickets bought and £2.5 million added
to the millionaire raffle fund for which only ONE £1 million-winning
ticket was drawn.
Occasionally, eg just after the jackpot has been won, a small loss can
be incurred on the millionaire raffle draw. But usually it shows a
profit and whenever there is a special draw or a reasonable jackpot, it
makes a handsome profit.
