Non-UK RGL subscribers will have noticed the use of the word 'grass' in my
recent posts (as in gARY-the-gRASS) and perhaps wondered what exactly, does
the word 'grass' mean?

Allow me to explain..

A 'grass' or 'grassing up' is a commonly used expression here in the UK but
is less common in other countries.

Put simply: in the UK a 'grass' is an informer.

In UK prisons, a 'grass' is regarded as human scum, despised and only
marginally above paedos in terms of the prison inmates' 'hierarchy'.

With reference to my RGL spoof website and the images it contains,
RGL subscriber 'gARY' threatened me (reference image copyright) with this..

Hence gARY's new (and well earned) handle..

So what you are saying is "You've been to Prison"

Unless you're on a play with words, not so.. Niggle.

It is believed that the word 'grass' originated during the 1950s, among UK
prison inmates.

Generally, a 'grass' will report alleged illegal activity to the authorities
in return for favours i.e, shorter sentence, better prison conditions etc.
For example, a 'grass' might be allowed his daily exercise on a piece of
neatly mowed prison lawn (grass) rather than in the prison exercise yard,
with the mandatory cold concrete floor.

The term 'grass' later developed into the word 'supergrass' when criminal
(and terrorist) organisations were 'grassed' upon by people with 'inside'
information. However (and as you will know) a 'supergrass' usually needs
24/7 police protection and after 'grassing up' he will probably live the
rest of his life looking 'over his shoulder' and generally, in fear.

Alternatively, a 'whistleblower' is usually on the side of fair play,
exposing poor practice by companies. Again as an example, those employing
illegal immigrants and paying them less than the legal minimum wage, poor
working conditions etc. A 'whistleblower' will expose poor National Health
Authority practice and the like. As you will also be aware, it was a
'whistleblower' who recently exposed the farcical situation regarding the
ridiculous expenses claims by many of our Members of Parliament.

Generally, folks will view a 'whistleblower' as a person trying to help by
exposing 'official' malpractice, whereas a 'grass' will be viewed as the
lowly, sneaky, underhand type, 'grassing' for gain or for his own
narrow-minded, self-interest.

Now I don't know whether 'JAgger1' is asking *me* that question or if he's
asking *you* that question.. Niggle?

I looked again at my original post in this thread to see if I said that I'd
'been to prison' and no, I didn't say that. I then re-read your post and
no, you didn't say it either?

Hmmmm: leaves me wondering if a post has arrived in this thread that is only
visible to 'JAgger1' ??

Since you're calling gARY a 'grass', does that mean you have half-inched
the photos and what sort of favours do you think he is getting?

My newsreader shows it as being a reply to my post, but your post
suggested you were familiar with the inner culture of prisons, including
the inmates treatment of grasses and paedos.

Your guess is as good as mine.

Now now Niggle, you're starting to niggle agaiin!

*No* it doesn't mean that I have 'half-inched' the photos but it *does* mean
that 'gARY-the-gRASS' thinks I have!

Probably best you ask 'gARY-the-gRASS' that question. However, my opinion
is that 'gARY-the-gRASS' thinks by publicly exposing me as some sort of
copyright thief, he will improve his currently zero credibility and stature
in this forum.

Your intimation and probably that of 'JAgger1' being (of course) that as I
know these things, I must have been a prison inmate!

I know a lot about a policeman's daily life. Perhaps you (and JAgger1) are
now going to assume I am (or was) a copper? I also know a lot about a
politician's daily life. Perhaps both you (and JAgger1) are now going to
assume I am (or was) a politician?

Just because a person is (as you put it).. 'familiar with the inner culture
of prisons' does not necessarily mean that the person has been a prison
inmate. There are lots of ways a person can learn about prison culture and
indeed many other cultures, Niggle.. and you know it!

Hmmmm: yet *more* spurious assumptions in this forum of narrow-minded,
intransigent, knee-jerk reactionaries and false accusers!

Perhaps gARY isn't really thinking of ratting on you but just winding
you up, so that would make him artificial grass aka astroturf.

Perhaps he'll stand underneath of flock of pigeons and record where the
poop splats him, hence using astrolottology to predict the lottery numbers.

The only grass known to me is nearer weed.

Am I not a druggie here?
