I'm travelling through New Mexico on I-40 later this month. Headed north
at Albuquerque. Does anyone in this newsgroup had any experience at
casinos in New Mexico. Do they have craps? Blackjack? If craps, what
kind of rules, odds, etc.

Thanks all.

The first casino you will pass is Sandia, which I've never done well at.

If you go south on I-25 from the 25/40 interchange about 10 miles you'll get to
Isleta, which has 20x odds at craps and may be the only casino in the state that
stands on soft 17 at BJ, which gives them the best rules in the area.

A little less out of the way in Santa Ana in Benalillo. Take highway 44 west
through town and you can't miss it. These guys are friendly with decent BJ and
craps, 10x odds and sometimes $3 minimums.

Right along I-25 half way to Santa Fe is San Felipe. This is a smaller casino
and the craps table isn't always open. BJ can be good but crowded since they
don't usually have a lot of tables open.

There are casinos up north past Santa Fe but not along I-25, you have to go
towards Taos. These places are interesting because they are all very different
and have their own style, but if you're not going that way it's probably not
worth the detour.

I think all three casinos recommended pay triple for 12 in the field and have
the delayed vig when buying 4 & 10, but none have $.50 chips at the craps tables
for paying off small bets.

Hey Charlie -

You're in luck. There are some nice choices in Albuquerque and points
north.

The big dog in that market is Sandia Casino. Check out their web site
at www.sandiacasino.com.

I'm partial to the Sant Ana Star in Bernalillo - just north of
Albuquerque. Small casino with - as I recall - just one table.
Decent crew - generally a five dollar game. www.santaanastar.com

Up north a little further Camel Rock Casino. Up from there is Cities
of Gold. Both claim to be in Santa Fe but that's a stretch.

Last on the list - Taos Mountain - which is (as I recall) a
non-smoking casino. My pal Michael Vernon lives up in that part of
the woods and teaches craps classes there from time to time.

The place I did not mention is Isletta casino - which is SOUTH of
Albuquerque. Plenty of choices up north - so no point in making a
detour that I can see unless you just want to collect player cards and
chips.

I'm thinking of making a little run up that way myself - probably in
mid-September.

Thanks for the info. I'm headed up US550 to Durango, but I don't mind a little detour, but I doubt I'll go
south. After I posted, I did a Google search and got some more info. I've been through NM plenty when a truck
driver. I had assumed the NM casinos were slot palaces much like OK, AZ and CA. (Although I have played some
poker at Camp Verde, AZ).

I'll probaby poke my head into Sandia and Santa Ana (I think I'll be going right through Bernalillo). I'll be
through there on a Wednesday afternoon/evening.

Heavy,

Is Isletta where GTC put on something similar to what they did in Tunica. I
think the casino sponsored them and apparently treats craps players well.

heavy is giving you the straight scoop.

the only think I would add is that you should do some searching and
check out the restaurants

there is a mexican restaurant that has been there since before they
landed at jamestown (really!) near espanola that is out of this world
food, atmosphere, and extremely reasonable prices.

yeah I was suppose to be on that same trip, wool and all, but we are
headed to another part of the country at that time (casino boats) for
some family time and will catch the wool festival and yep same idea
for me--casinos--in 2005. Let us know. Trip report please.

Isleta is where they had the Gamblers Jamboree.
