I need to make a vegetarian soup and therefore need some vegetable
stock. I'd prefer to buy some in a store rather than make my own. Is
there one particular brand which is better than others?

Which country are you in? If you're in the UK, I can make some recommendations.

These following stocks are all vegan as far as I know. (If they aren't
vegan, please tell me).

Swiss Vegan Vegetable Boillion (spelling?). Not as good as it was before
they reduced the salt. (Adding salt doesn't help). Not bad, in a rich
'chicken soup' sort of way.

Safeways vegetable stock cubes. IMHO the best cheap vegetable stock cubes.
I use them frequently.

Oscar vegetable stock. I'm not sure if this is vegan, or if it's still
around (I haven't used any since I went vegan but keep meaning to look it
up). It was amazing. I used to open the small plastic pot and smell it,
it was so good.

Using Marmite as stock. Often recommended, but I find that it doesn't work
as well as proper stocks. Takes a lot to stop it tasting watery, and then
you have too much flavour.

That black paste in the white plastic pots. Very common, but I can't
remember the name in my cold addled state. Not the best, but not bad.

Kallo. Not impressed, personally.

PS: Waitrose stock cubes aren't bad either. But, IMHO they're no better
than the safeway cubes, but they cost more. I haven't used Sainsbury's
or Tesco's veggie stock cubes within recent times as I'm not sure if
they are vegan.

Following up my own post a second time (I'm suffering :-( ), the stock paste
in the white plastic pots that I couldn't remember the name of is "Vecon".

Best and easiest stock/broth is soy sauce. I prefer bragg's soy sauce.
:)

I stick to the brands in aseptic boxes from the natural foods section of
my local grocery.

i like pacific vegetable broth in the aseptic box.
they make a good mushroom broth too which is excellent for vegan gravy.

watch out for those cubes, many contain MSG.
