Hi,

I have two questions.

1) I am looking for information about "Karamdas." I bought a jar of hot
Indian mixed pickle, and one of the ingredients listed is "Karamdas."
They are green, about the size of a pea, and pink inside. Strangest
thing I ever saw. What sort of plant do they come from? I did a search
of the Web using several different search engines, and out of the half
billion pages on the Web, not a single one contained the word "Karamda"
or "Karamdas." They taste good. What other sorts of recipes are there
for karamdas, and where can I find them?

2) Is there a newsgroup devoted to Indian food or Indian cooking? I searched
the list of newsgroups carried by my ISP, and there was definitely nothing
remotely close. Again, unbelievable.

Regards
g.

i think the problem may be variations in spelling, Websters gives:

karanda - a shrub or small tree, Carissa Carandas,
of India, having white or pink flowers and
reddish-black berries. [< Hindi < Sanskrit karamardaka]

Sounds like some sort of caper, but that's just a guess.

Hi,

I don't think there is any newsgroup for Indian cooking. I am an Indian
myself and I was a bit surprised. But it is better that Indians come to this
newsgroup and spread Indian dishes. Good for all of us, right?
