My wife and I will be spending four days, including Christmas, in Montreal.
Any suggestions about good, moderate-to-expensive restaurants (French,
Quebecois, and Indian cuisine especially)? We're especially interested
in the impact being there over the holiday may have on places being open.

You will want to go on Prince Arthur Street in Montreal. There is an area
closed off to traffic and only restaurants exists.(no fastfood) Mother
Tuckers on Rene-Levesque boulevard is very good too. If you like chicken
& ribs... The Bar-B Barn on Guy Street is a good place. If you like spicy
mexican food... Carlos & Pepes on Peel Street is recommendable. Once in
Mtl. just ask people around...we have a very good taste for food.
