I am interested in recommendations for nice, yet moderately priced
restaurants in Morehead City, NC. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi: A couple of our favorite restaurants in that area are in Swansboro.
The White Oak River Cafe, great Italian food/nice blends of seafood with
fresh pasta and accross the street, the Crab House (also on the riverfront)
They tend to be priced the same as most coastal places. We get to
Emerald Isle several times a year and hit those two places all the time.

Some of the best Pizza that can be found outside of Brooklyn can be had at
Mario's Pizza. It is in a strip mall as you are headed into Havelock.
There is a Chart House restraunt (not related to the chain I'm told) in
Morehead. Most of the locals when I was living there went to a restraunt
on the causeway headed into Atlantic Beach. It was on the left (my memory
is slipping) before the steak restraunt. From personal experience, the
restraunts on the left hand side of the causeway going into Atlantic beach
were all fair to good, and the ones on the right hand side were all poor
to fair.

My parents live down that way, so we get down there at
least once or twice a year.
Anyway, I second the suggestion for the White Oak River
Cafe, especially for lunch after a morning of antique shopping
in Swansboro.
We really like the Purple Pelican at the Beaufort Yacht Club,
Jason's at the waterfront in Morehead City, the Beaufort
Grocery in downtown Beaufort, Rapscallions for a casual
sandwich type meal in Morehead City, the Gourmet Galley
in Morehead City (on Rte 70 towards Havelock).
Make sure you stop at Fort Macon in Atlantic Beach, the
NC aquarium in Pine Knoll Shores (where my folks live :),
the antique shops in Beaufort.

Make sure that you go to the Sanitary Fish Market. If you're from NC,you
always go to the Sanitary when you go to the beaches near there. Excellent
fresh seafood.

I disagree! Some of the WORST food I have ever eaten has come from the
Sanitary.
Some of the most expensive in the area as well.

The Sanitary is in Morhead City, but in the Wilmington area, make sure that
you stop by the waterfront district. A nice area to have dinner and stroll
around the historic district.

The Sanitary Restaurant is not in the Wilmington area,
it's about two hours north in Morehead City. And
believe me, it's NOT worth the drive. I agree with
the poster that said it had terrible food. If you plan
to drive up to Morehead, go to the restaurant across
the street from the Sanitary - Jason's.

The Sanitary is inMorehead City, on the Wataerfront. It specializes
mostly in fried seafood. The food isn't bad/ isn't good. I don't like
their cocktail sauce. It's mosly ketchup with pickle relish mixed in. (I
prefer very hot horseradish cocktail sauces). Near Morehead is the little
town of Swansboro (20 miles south). I have two favorite places
there...The White Oak River Cafe (Italian food) and the Crab House (on the
River). They both have better food than the Sanitary.
