It's too long of an article to post here, so if you're interested,
drop me a message and I'll e-mail the list to you.

Here's something else to add, in case GAUTREAU'S is not on your list. That's
the "new" Gautreau's, reopened with new management and a new chef last year.
The menu there is truly California/New-America cuisine (with the use of local
ingredients, of course). For example, crab cakes with black beans and dry
tomato (an appetizer); sauteed sea scallops with red cabbage; roast pork
with prune rissoto. I was there a couple of weeks ago and it was excellent.
It is uptown in a residential neighborhood, about a 15-20 minute streetcar
ride from Canal Street plus a 3 block walk from St. Charles. (If you have a
car, there is plenty of parking available on the street.) Prices are in the
$20-30 per person range without liquor.
I was also at Emeril's again recently and it is still superb.
In my book, the top 5 in N.O. are currently (in alphabetic order) Bayona,
Brigtsen's, Commander's Palace, Emeril's, and the Pelican Club. All are
moderately high end ($20-40 per person without liquor) and all require
reservations well in advance for weekend dinners.
Gautreau's probably rates in the top 10.
