That's an easy one. Hop a taxi, tell Abdul, the driver, "chocolate
mission--airport, fast!"*, catch the Southwest to Burbank, give the
stewardess an extra dollar so the pilot, Billy-joe Jim-bob, can buy
enough gas to make it all the way to the runway this time,
pop over to the Avis
counter, grab a Samurai, pay the CDW against all the marauding Los Angeles
Suzuki-tipper ganes, strap in, roar down the 5 to the 134 to the 210 to the 2
to the 210--and this time stay in the LEFT lane, so you don't go around
again--get off at Rosemead North, streak up just past the Pacific's
Hastings, left into the parking lot, unstrap, slide past the
psuedo-roccoco columns, a quick right into the foyer and quietly bellow

"DEATH BY CHOCOLATE!"

at Robin, who'll gladly oblige with anywhere from a single piece large
enough to put you into a diabetic coma to a entire cake guaranteed to
raise zits on a standing army.

Now, wasn't that worth it?

(With profuse apologies to Art, who knows better.)

Alex

*Unknown to many people, this phrase is taught to ALL taxi-drivers, even
the incomprehensible ones of no known foreign extraction that inhabit
Bill Murray movies and large cities. Imagine how much trouble he could
have saved if he'd known those four fateful words?

Yah, sure, but if you only get Death by Chocolate, you'll be missing
the best dessert in the house.

Do you like cheescake? No? Well, I'm not crazy for it either, in the
general case that is. But Robin's cheescake is just about good enough to
*kill* for. Take the blueberry cheescake for example (if you can beat
me to it). Most cheescakes would have a blueberry topping with standard
filling. Robin's has the topping, but there's also blueberry mixed all
the way through it. These cheescakes are about 3 inches thick, too.
[For those in the SF Bay area that think that Uncle Otto's is the be-
all-and-end-all of cheescakes, be advised that Uncle Otto's rates a
"just fair" by comparison.]

What's that you say? You don't like blueberries? Not to worry...
there are other flavors, including apple, peach, apricot, raspberry,
kaluha, and Rocky Road (one slice of which is too rich for even two to
handle). For you chocaholics, there's chocolate chip cheescake and a
1001 chocolate chip cake. Death by Chocolate you know about already.

Don't forget the ice-cream drinks. There's one called a Cookie
Crusher that will confound your system with simultaneous sugar shock
and double-liquor hit. After two of those, you'll be the most charged-
up drunk in town.

Robin's has main courses, too, but these can be a problem as they
might make you too full for dessert. No problem though -- you can take
it with you.

If you do try this place as a result of this recommendation, tell
'em that "Steve from San Francisco" sent you (or at least, that I
say hi). They'll know who you're talking about. And if you do go,
bring back a blueberry cheescake for me. Or else.

One of these days, I'm going to make a run to Pasadena in my
Piper Arrow (private plane) *solely* for the purpose of bringing
back some cheescake, alive! This would be massive decadence. What
other justification does one need?
