Baked Ham With Honey and Fruit Nectar

Aluminum Foil or Large Baking Bag
Roasting Pan
Meat thermometer

1/2 Spiral-cut smoked ham (about 7 lbs. fully cooked)
Juices packaged with ham
1/2 to 1 can Coca Cola (optional)
1/2 cup Pear Nectar (or other fruit nectar of choice - Pineapple juice is
good)
3/4 cup Fresh Orange juice
Or,
1/2 cup Frozen Orange Juice Concentrate
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
3/4 cup firmly packed DARK brown sugar
1/2 to 3/4 cup Honey (Get local honey, if you can get some that is
pasteurized)
Orange Marmalade, Pear Preserves, Crushed Pineapple or fruit of choice
(optional)

Preheat oven to 375* F. Spread out on your table an adequate amount of
foil to wrap the ham. Alternatively, you can use a large size Reynolds
baking bag. Place ham on the foil or in bag, cut end down, in a roasting
pan. Mix juices together in a bowl. Pour over ham. If desired, you can
pour a can of Coca Cola over it also. Cinnamon may be sprinkled on top if
desired (optional). Bake ham in preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes per
pound. Carefully open top of foil or end of bag (the steam will be very
hot) and baste the ham several times with juice and pan drippings. After
about 1 hour, turn the ham so the sliced end is either upright or the ham
is on its side (best

I think for this step). Use either method, #1 or #2.

#1- Sprinkle the dark brown sugar over the ham. Press it down firmly with
a spatula. Drizzle honey over the sugar.

#2- Mix dark brown sugar and honey together in a small bowl. Drizzle or
brush mixture on the ham.

Leaving foil open on top -- or if in a bag, you might want to leave it
open and pull it back -- Bake ham for another 45 minutes, or until
internal temperature measures 140 Degrees F. on a meat thermometer. [You
might want to spread orange marmalade or pear preserves or other fruit jam
on top]. BASTE ham thoroughly and allow to cool. Reserve drippings. Wrap
ham tightly with foil. Serve as desired, either warm or chilled. Before
serving, heat drippings and pour over ham and in gaps of slices.

A good side dish would be sliced pineapple with maraschino cherries in the
centers, baked and basted until golden brown. We also like macaroni salad,
deviled eggs, stuffed celery and either fresh vegetables (peas, butter
beans, okra and or corn on the cob) or pimento cheese sandwiches (on rye),
plenty of iced tea and watermelon or blackberry or cherry pie.

Enjoy!
