1 lg can tomato paste
1-2 cans hot water (depending upon desired thickness)
1/3 bottle Spice Island Spaghetti Sauce Seasoning
1/4 - 1/2 cup sugar (depending upon taste)
1 lb. ground meat, browned (half Italian sausage and half ground
beef works nicely)
Mix first four ingredients and bring to a boil, mixing until
spices and sugar have dissolved and water and tomato paste are
well-blended. Add meat. Simmer (the longer the better, but
this is quite good after just 15 minutes). You can make this
sauce in 30 minutes for a quick, delicious meal. I don't
know what they put in the Spice Island seasoning, but it is
quite different from any other bottled Spaghetti Sauce mix and
I've never been able to duplicate it. Here in Central Iowa
it is hard to find so when I see it I usually buy all they have
on the shelf.
Note: this is also a great sauce without the meat, or to use
with meatballs.
