I thought you might be interested...I e-mailed Altrista at their web site,
asking why the Ball Blue Book was available to Americans but not to
Canadians. This is what they say:

"Ball brand products are sold only in the United States. In Canada our
company sells Bernardin brand home canning supplies. While the two
lines are very similar, they are not identical and in some cases
different usage directions apply. Since the Ball Blue Book was created
for use with Ball brand jars and lids, it would not be appropriate to
offer it to Canadian consumers who do not have these Ball brand items
in their stores. Bernardin offers three home canning recipe books for
use with its products -- the Bernardin Guide to Home Preserving and two
new digest-sized mini-guides....one on Tomatoes and the other devoted
to Jams & Jellies."

Thanks for posting this answer. I guess that we Canadians will have to not
use PFB or any other non Canadian books and certainly should not use those
old USDA recipes. Given that Bernardin seems to have limited testing
facilities and seems to rely on USDA tests, it's even funnier. Ellen
