Hi all,

I'm a relative newcomer to this group. I just started posting last week and
am looking forward to learning and sharing here :-) Due to circumstances,
It's been about 3 years since I've been canning. And even then I had only
been involved in canning for about 2-3 years.

I have a question about my Mirro. Following the instructions in the manual,
I'm checking the proper heat settings on my stove for 5, 10 & 15 Lbs of
pressure. The instructions indicate the heat should be properly adjusted so
that the control "jiggles" about 4 times a minute. At 5 Lbs, I can almost
achive that, but not at 10. So I'm making the assumption that as long as I
have a couple of significant pauses (between "jiggling") within an
aproximate 1 minute, I should be ok.

What I'm experiencing is a significant pause of about 5 -7 seconds, then
almost consistant jiggling with sporadic 1 second pauses for about 30
seconds, then another significant pause. Repeat....

Also, the heat settings between 5 Lbs and 10 Lbs is not that significant.
Unfortunately, I'm on an electric range now (I used to have gas) and fine
tuning the heat is not as easy as it used to be. I guess I could try and be
more precise, but I think that I'm probably safe with what I'm experiencing.

What you think ?

Thanks,

David...

One quick question: What kind of electric stove do you have? Is it the kind
that automatically turns on and off to keep a set temp? That would explain
your problem. If not, I don't know. Hope someone else can help.

Nope,

Just the standard run-of-the-mill apartment stove. I'm *sure* it's of the
highest quality :-)

Is the stove level? If it's not, the jiggler can get stuck momentarily
when it lets the steam out.

Excellent suggestion Bob,

I gave it the water test and it definitely is not level. I'll load it with
a weighted pressure cooker tomorrow and make sure it's straightened out with
a straight level. Hopefully that'll solve the problem.

Thanks !

David...
