As mentioned above, my 21 qt presto pressure cooker lid is stuck and won't
budge for anything after I cooked some apples in it for applesauce. I
tried immersing the pot in cool water after the pressure dropped to zero,
tried smacking the lid handles with a rubber mallet (busted one of them),
also tried prying the crack open, but nothing. Does anyone have any ideas
on how to fix this short of bringing it in to a hardware- and what would
they do there that a non-specialist couldn't do at home? Sorry if this is
not the correct n. group for this question, but I did a search of dejanews
and came up with no answers to this kind of question. Thanks,

Brian.

I thought I'd post this, as I just found a solt., or at least one that
worked for me in this case. Using someone else's suggestion, I tapped
around the rim with the rubber mallet, and followed it by brushing some
heated olive oil in the crack around the lid, using the bristles to push
the oil as far in as possible, all around the crack. I then poured
pitchers of hot tap water all over the lid, for around 1 minute, then
took out the rubber mallet and hit one of the handles, tapping it counter
clockwise until it moved bit by bit. Hope this might help someone else who
encounters this problem in the future.

Brian.

Just a thought. Could you heat just the lid without heating the base?
That would cause the top to expand a bit...

???
