Hi

Does anyone use a pressure cooker for pickles? I'm wondering because
the booklet that came with my pressure cooker says to use a water-bath
canner.

I'm thinking I should just use the pressure cooker without the seal so
I can just gently boil the jars instead. Let me know, I really want
to try canning soon as I've got enough jars to easily fill my
cupboard. :) Now I just need to find things to preserve other than
pickles.

If you use your "pressure cooker" with the seal, it isn't a pressure cooker,
it's a water bath. Ellen

Here's a discusion we had on this topic earlier:

I can't find the post (another discussion) where I quoted the directions
from a canning book. In summary, you fill the canner with hot water up
to the shoulders of the jars. Attach the canner lid with the gasket but
do not close the petcock or put on the weighted jiggler. Start timing
when steam pours out the vent.

Best regards,
Bob

I meant of course to say "without the seal". Ellen

It can be used as a water bath canner, however they are not deep enough to
cover the jars with the required amount of water unless you are using pint
jars in a quart size canner.

Am I right folks?
