Two half pint jars and some extra for me came from the BWB a couple
hours ago. Might be the last of my gifts to wrap.

Back atcha.
I make a lentil stew that my nephew & niece just adore. Yup, I gave
them the recipe. Nope, it didn't work. They said they tried it and
it "didn't turn out" like mine did. Now, this may be a lame excuse
for me to make it but, I'll chalk it up that they just love me so much
that they want me to make it when they come over to visit.

I think the more modern tradition is to tell her "google it, dope!"
That's what mothers DO, isn't it? And sometimes daughters "do"
for us, too.
I spent the past four days helping out with our son's very
colicky baby at their house in the mts.
Now they are visiting at our house for an early Christmas
with our daughter's family who are spending the holidays in
California (It's the in-laws' turn for them.)
When I knew I wouldn't be back home in time to do any food
shopping, much less cooking as we had planned, Dear Daughter
offered. I told her "Something simple will be fine."
Our menu? Homemade eggnog
Phyllo hors d'oeuvres: spinach and cheese pockets, rolled pulled
pork with jalapenos and cheese.
A grilled beef tenderloin roast, mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes,
green beans, Yorkshire pudding, mixed baby greens salad with
candied pecans and some sliced very sweet pear.
Cheesecake with blackberry coulis for dessert
Sometimes daughters "do" for us, too. I couldn't be prouder of her.

We're going to our daughters house in Texas, the new baby will be close
enough for us to visit. We're taking a seven-pound standing rib roast, a
couple of dozen homemade whole wheat dinner rolls, two lemon meringue
pies (made with juice and peel from our Ponderosa lemons)and a host of
envelopes. This year we're giving the descendants money to help defray
the deficit spending our Congress Critters are doing.

Never gonna happen here.
Glad she helped out.
Yup....I've been baking buns for days for the 3 different dinners we'll be
attending....4 batches of cookies are in the freezer already. 2 pies backed
over the last 2 days for tonight's dinner.. My oldest (16) said "are we
having pumpkin pie for Christmas dinner?" I told her to make sure she got a
piece today because on Christmas day we're having trifle (my in-laws are
Brits and my hubby looks forward to what his mom brings every year). "Ew",
she says....
On Thursday I realized that I was totally out of Cranberry Orange Chutney -
something I make every year and always have for turkey feasts...I rushed out
to the grocery store to get all the ingredients and dusted off the
canner....well, not really...the canner never rests long enough in my house
to collect dust :)
happy holidays, everybody!!

I just did a double-take reading that, on first glance I read it as
"lethal stew"! =:-0
