I have an old recipie for sweet pickles using alum. There are no detailed instructions on the proper rinsing procedure. Does anyone have any experience using alum in pickling? Andie

Alum is aluminum and is often left in not rinsed out. It's really not needed. Make sure your produce is really fresh. Many sliced pickles also use a soak in ice water to help them stay crisp.
