Hi all....wondering if it is necessary to *freeze* apple butter, my recipe
says put in freezer jars until ready to use....but I wanted to hand it out
to family and friends and didn't want to freeze first then distribute
thawed.

Thanks

In article <_QAI5.364406$Gh.11...@news20.bellglobal.com>,
> No. If you're wanting to give it as gifts, when you're through
filling your canning jars, seal the jars with sterilized flats and rings
and process them in a hot water bath for 15 minutes for pint jars or 20
minutes for quarts, then take them out and cool them on wire racks until
they're cool. Then wipe the jars clean, put on a bow and they're ready
for gifts.

Sounds like you have a recipe for freezing applesauce. To give it as
gifts you will want to can it.

Make the apple sauce. Heat sauce to a boil, pour it boiling hot
into hot jars (pouring it into a cold jar often breaks the jar) Leave
1/2 inch head space. Remove the air bubbles. Process pints /
quart jars for twenty minutes in a boiling water bath.
