Today I was shopping for a new kitchen gadget in Walmart and I ran across
a whole section dedicated to canning! I found a pot with a rack for $12,
lids, jars, tongs, magnetic wands, funnels, jelly screens, even mixes for
pickes. They didn't have the Ball Blue book, but they had some other
canning book full of recipes for $3.50. I was amazed at the selection.
As soon as my nectarines are ripe I will be on a canning spending spree
at Wal-Mart, they even had those plastic lids to use on jam that is
already opened in the fridge!

Thank you Christine for posting this info to the group. It means
folks will have an easier time to source their canning gear - Walmart
is everywhere.

Hint: Don't wait too long. This sort of merchandising is usually
very seasonal. This means there won't be much re-stocking. The
merchandise allocated, or in Walmart's case, on the sales floor is
all they _will_ have.

It is sometimes hard to find wide-mouth canning lids before May or
after October. Standard lids more available. A canner should always
have an eye peeled for a good buy.

children of today will indeed make the world a better place.

I would buy them now. I have been casually looking for a pot and rack
for a couple months and have not found them anywhere including two
Walmarts (Los Angeles Area).

Do you have a chain called Dollar General or Home General? My local DG
has 20 Qt canners with rack for $10. They also stock Anchor canning
jars in 1/2 pt jelly, pt and qt regular mouth canning jars the best $ I
have seen anywhere. $3.00 for 1/2 pts, 3.49 for pts and $4.00 for qts.
