Maybe that explains why you can longer find canning supplies on clearance at
the end of the season? Retailers must have figured out that there's a
continuous market. Of course, my last two trips to Walmart have proven that
as per normal, the canning stuff is all gone now, presumably to storage as I
know they didn't sell all the jars or the the BWB canners, etc. The only
thing left on the shelf was the Ball freezer containers, which were marked
down, but this year I didn't find pectin or lids or anything like that
marked down.

Try shopping at a real store then. My grocery stores (big national
chains) that carry canning supplies so so year round and have for
years and years.

Um, where did you get the idea that I don't shop at "real" stores (whatever
that means)? The majority of my canning supplies ARE not purchased at
Walmart. I just always look when I'm in there. I know where to buy them
year round, I've been canning for close to 30 years, long before there was a
Walmart in the state I live in. You have something against bargain
shopping?
And the grocery stores, yes, they do carry a limited amount of canning
supplies, usually at a significantly higher price than Walmart. I tend to
buy my stuff at McLendon's, which is a local hardware chain.

I find the title of the article (Home canning resurgence means fresh
food all year) a bit odd. By definition, canned food is not fresh!
I agree with the points in the article, though. In the end, I think
you have to can for the enjoyment and not for the savings. Knowing
what is in the jar is a great thing, too.
