I have a 14" Calphalon, the black one with the anodized surface. In the year
we've owned it, it has not been overheated. Nevertheless, the bottom is now
convex. It rocks on flat burners.

Our son is a pro cook and says that deforming like that shouldn't happen with
high quality cookware. He says it might still be under warranty or some such.
I read, but did not keep, the materials that came with the pan.

Any suggestions?

Talk to a store that sells it, or write the manufacturer.

Yeah, I got the Calphalon web URL and have gone there. I was more asking to
assess whether my experience was common, rare, or unique.

Thanks,

Chuck,

I too am a pro cook, and can tell you from experience that pans that are
all aluminum will eventually start warping. It's just the nature of
aluminum pans.

Steel/aluminum alloy pans, like all-clad and others (even Martha "I'm a
Felon" Stuart) pans should never warp. Just the difference between metals.

Disclaimer: I've not tried this approach.

I've heard that a rubber mallet can solve that problem, if the
there is no warranty coverage.

Actually, I got a response from Calphalon today, the same day I asked about it,
telling me that the pan shouldn't have warped and how to return it for a free
replacement.

I agree with Colin Povey, though. There really isn't anything to keep an
all-aluminum pan from doing that. And the rubber mallet was a waiting option.
But now I'll return it.

Thanks for the replies.

We've returned a couple things to them, including a skillet which had
a warped bottom -- we like to do blackend porkchops, which require
bitchin' heat. We've got a bunch of Calphalon pieces and most are
about 15 years old; some have been used hard, some have been abused.
They've been very good about sending replacements.

I've also returned warped Calphalon. The 2nd one warped as well
(perhaps my ex-wife overheated it? I don't know). Anyway, I took it
downstairs to my workbench and persuaded it back into position with my
40oz hammer. Worked just fine.

Great pointer. I got one from a friend with a warped bottom, placed a 2x4 on the bottom and gave it a couple respectable thumps and its flat. Thank
