Thanks.
We always buy stuff from our local store, since they deliver for free, cart
the old one away, extend the warranty, and are right out to make repairs.
They aren't necessarily the cheapest, but we figure all these services are
worth the price.

You can always do a search at www.froogle.com For major appliances, I would
probably stick with a local source.
I bought a 30" Jenn-Air gas cooktop from these people. The shipping wasn't
high because the cooktop I chose was light. Believe they are located in LA.
Saved about $60 over local prices.

I realize $60 might be a lot of $$ to you, but in the long run, don't
you think your local economy would have appreciated that influx of
cash rather than you sending it off elsewhere?
Pearland, Texas is rather limited on choices of where to buy appliances!
Plus I have no loyalties to any of the appliance stores located in Houston.
We did use a local contractor for installation (who is also a friend).
We do buy in Pearland when it's feasible.

Yes, but did you really save $60 in the long run? Often when you factor in
getting rid of an old appliance, delivery etc., it is not as much as you
think. Who is going to service it if needed? Some small dealers will not
service a warranty call if they did not sell the appliance. You wait three
days for the guy from the big city instead of three hours for the guy around
the corner. .
Things my local dealer has done that the discounters would not even think of
doing"
Old freezer died so we bought one from the local dealer the same day. The
one we wanted was not ins tock, so he brought over a loaner, helped transfer
the food, took the old one out. When the new once came, he set it in place
and again did the food transfer.
Washer was not working right so I bought a couple of parts from the local
dealer at 10:00 AM. Turned out to be more than just what I bought so we
bought a new machine instead. That was at noon time.
He took back the parts I bought, gave me 100% credit even though they were
opened. Delivered the new machine at 3:00 PM, set it up, carted away the
old one.
In each case, the price was within $40 of the so called bargain stores.
Did the same thing for our new dishwasher a few weeks ago. Nothing out of
the ordinary, but just plain old fashioned good service.
This was only a gas cooktop that we replaced as I hated the builders grade
Magic Chef that came with our home. My oldest son was more than happy to
take the cooktop off our hands as he needed a new one anyway (the one I
HATED was only about 1-1/2 years old) and was glad to get it.
The replacement cooktop came with a full warranty from Jenn-Air (really
Maytag I guess).
No I would not use an out-of-area appliance place for larger items. During
TS Allison a few years ago our washing machine went out so I ordered a new
one over the phone. It arrived (old washer was hauled off) and it didn't
even have the opportunity to complete one load of wash. We got a lemon.
The same day they delivered another one that has performed perfectly since.
Maybe it depends on what you are buying. The only reason I posted the web
site was because someone requested one and I was pleased with the people we
dealt with.

I bought a refrigerator yesterday. FWIW, this place has the same
model for $70 more than I paid at Home Depot, not counting shipping.
Shipping is another $120.

Just checked on the dishwasher I bought recently. Came out about $20
cheaper, but I have to drag it into the house and get rid of the old one.
When I bought the last one about 20 years ago, that $20 saving may have been
a factor. Today, I'm willing to pay for some services.
Home Depot is delivering the refrigerator at no extra charge, and
would be hauling the old one away for the princely sum of one cent
if I didn't already have other plans for it.
