I need to replace a dying coffeemaker (Braun) and want to know if anyone
has had problems (or can offer comments) with the electronic controls on
the new higher higher-end models such as the KF185 or KF187? Or am I
better off with a lower-end manual switch model such as the KF155 (this
one has the small-quantity switch)? Usually we make 1-3 cups at a time
but want a 10-12 cup model for when we have guests.

The current one had a few too many cups of coffee dribble over the plate
when my hubby (who shall remain nameless) made coffee without benefit of
the carafe, and the switch is, well, wonky. Are the new ones more
resistent to such oopsies or can they even prevent such smelly mishaps?

Also, does the adjustable plate temperature really make an difference to
justify the extra cost, or is it just marketing hoopla?

Any comments suggestions etc much appreciated!

Hi Lorna,

I think I have the KF187; it's the Flavorselect model with the washable gold
filter, built-in water filter and temperature selector. I really love this
coffeemaker! I've had it for some time now, I think close to two years and
haven't had a problem with it. It really makes great coffee too. Very rich
and flavorful. We usually make between 3 and 8 cups and I haven't noticed
much difference using the small quantity switch. I don't "play" around with
the temperature switch, but the higher brew temperature does make a
difference and the burner plate does keep the brewed coffee consistently
hot. I think Deja has some reviews on coffeemakers, including these models
and also search the coffee newsgroups for posts about them.

For what it may be worth, I prefer Krups over Braun. Krups makes a big deal
out of correct water temps, though maybe Braun does too at this point.
American made coffee makers usually overheat the water and also overheat the
plate under the glass container, burning the coffee at both points. Good
luck, Jerry

I bought the KF187, black to hide the coffee colour that will otherwise
inevitably stain the lid. So far, so good! Haven't tried the auto mode
but the auto-shutoff seems dandy.

Thanks for the advice!
