Hello. I just wanted to see if anyone out there could help me
with an inquiry. Several of my friends along with myself have
been trying to think of any bars in the area (say within two
hours of Durham) which have an outdoor patio and overlook the
lake, ocean, or any other significant body of water. So far we
haven't come up with any. So if anyone has any suggestions they
would be greatly appreciated. If you know of any nice bars with
just a good outdoor patio that would be appreciated too.
Basically, we just want a nice play to kick back with some
margaritas, watch the sun set, and smell the water air. Any
information anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much,
Stephen P. Czenszak

If you come by Concord you might make the 2 hour limit, and there are
probably 30 such places overlooking Puget Sound or Lake Washington, in and
near Seattle. come visit some time for great views, most microbreweries
per capita, and better than acceptable local wines.

There's a gorgeous bar by the beach about 25 miles North of
Mahon, Menorca. The patio has water lapping aginst it. To one
side is the beach and the other has moored yachts. They serve
a mean fershly battered calimari with Torres Gran Vina Sol.

I dunno how you'll get from Durham to Spain in two hours though?

One of the nicest I know is the Riverside Cafe looking towards
the World Trade Center on Manhattan from the other side of the
water. Next to the Brooklyn bridge?

I would recommend Tony & Joes in Washington D.C. Haven't a clue how far it is
from you but they have excellent seafood, a great location on the Potomac with
a view of D.C and the Kennedy Center.

Cheers,
Eric

Well I just got back from a long weekend in Venice and
we spent a great deal of time in cafes overlooking the water.
Do you consider canals significant?

Other than that I can recommend anywhere on the Adriatic coast of Italy,
the Mediterranian coast of France or Italy as being likely prospects.
My particular favorites are those little beach side cafe-restuarants
that rent mattresses and serve great meals of pasta with seafood, paella
boulliabaise etc and are great places to sit by the water and have a drink
and watch the sun go down, the boats come in and the sand and water change color
as it becomes dusk.

If you are looking for just one place I would recommend Capri,
being an island of somewhat hilly, not to say mountainous nature
everyplace on it is within sight of water.

How you get there in two hours of Durham is your problem :=)
But if you manage you will find it worth the trip.

Speaking of Venice...Venice Beach in California has some really cool
places, my favorite now being the Cheesecake Factory. Besides having
really neat ice cream drinks and a great view, they also do pretty
good cheesecake (although i suspect that the cheesecake is actually
made by sara lee in their specialty lines). if you go, go hungry --
the food is good and the portions are huge!

Durham? how far is that from Carolina Beach?
