I was in Russia recently and got introduced to Stolichnaya,
the national anaesthetic. After coming back, I did a few
taste tests and only found Sweden's Absolut to come close
to Stoli ... do any vodka fans have any favourites to try
against these two? Thanks for any info ...

I, too, am interested in others' feedback on this topic.

I have always found Stoli's Cristall to be the smoothest (while still
potent) vodka available in the United States. Anyone disagree? If so,
why?? What's better?

A side note for vodka fans, try this shot:

Orange Sherbert - by MS and EL
fill shot glass half full with Stoli's Cristall
Add Orange Juice
Top with a dash of grenadine

Let me know what you think of the shot!

I cant say I ever really liked Stoli. I always found it a bit harsh. I
used to always get Suntory. It was cheap, Japanese vodka that I found to be
quite smooth and pleasant. But apparently you cant get it any more (anyone
know otherwise?) I also thought Fris is pretty good, but a bit much.

My personal favorite is FINLANDIA. After comparative tasting, it is my choice.
I keep a bottle in the freezer at all times!

Second choice is Absolut.

try Finlandia and Wyborowa(sp), although Stoli may still be tops.

You may also want to investigate some Polish potato vodka.
