I have used a twelve cup Mr. Coffee Maker for some mean cups of coffee
over the years. I love it and it cost about 35-40 dollars with a timer.
Now tell me this, when I see the Krups drip machines, wih a timer and
such I see a price tag of 90-100 or more dollars. What is the
difference? I think Mr. Coffee is built well. Is there a taste
difference, I use a gold filter to get the best out of a drip system.
Any comments? Thanks.

Brew temp... Mr. Coffee has a rep in the industry for brewing at less
than optimal temp (195-205). You pay more for the higher temp achieved
by Krups, Braun and Melitta....

I think that Krups has taken a quality nose-dive in the past couple of years.
Somebody told me that Consumer Reports actually rates Mr. Coffee above Krups
this year.

Mr. Coffee didn't use to brew hot enough for really good coffee.

The big difference may be the filter. If you use one of those gold filters,
you are letting through a great deal more oil than you'd get with a paper
filter. That's a big change in the taste... and the effects of coffee on the
stomach lining.
