Just recently I bought a six pack of a new brew by Devil Mountain Brewing
Co. (Cinncinati, OH). If anyone has had occasion to try Devil Mountain
Five Malt Ale, I'd be interested in their opinion.

Personally, I think this stuff is like the nectar of the gods....

**A friend of mine brought me back a bottle of "Devil Mountain Ale" with
a blue lable, after a trip to Atlanta. Is this the same stuff?
I've never seen it sold in Oregon.

It was about a year ago, but as I recall, it was a pretty good brew.
(WAY better than the "Sweet Georgia Brown" from Marthasville that she
also picked up...)

(Quick run out to the beer bottle collection). The blue label was the
Railroad Ale, an amber. The brewery, in California, closed earlier this
year or late last year.

All of the beers I tried from Devil Mountain were flavorful.
Unfortunately, it seems the brewery got lost in the shuffle of new micros.
The new Devil Mountain is a contract, brewed at Schoenling in Cinncinati,
and owned by Seagram if I'm not mistaken. They are brewed by one of Boston
Beer's brewmasters. I was impressed by both the Five Malt and the Black
Honey at the recent RI Beer Expo, and I'll definitely be buying both of
these beers.

Prost!

According to the Devil Mountain folks at GABF, their original
brewmaster (Jim DeBoer) still brews the beer, albeit on Schoenling's
equipment. I've also heard (via the Malt Advocate) that Seagram owns
the label now, and also that Boston Beer Company is serving as a
consultant to Seagram on Seagram's brewing projects in the US and
Canada.

It's all very confusing...

have fun

In addition to brewing for Devil Mountain, DeBoer is also a brewmaster for
BBC. He is among the brewers shown in the BBC's ad in All About Beer
magazine featuring their brewers.

What?! Forgive me for changing the subject a little, but Devil
Mountain is brewing again? Is this the same Devil Mountain that used
to make Railroad Ale? Tell me it's true!

Yes -- nearly all year they have. Packed up and left Benicia, CA
for Cincinnati, OH. It is NOT the same beer. The name's the
same, but the brewery and location are 1,000's of miles apart.
