Agreed, and it makes me wonder how QuinceyCat got taken in by Buffy, but
nailed Effie so quickly?

Elementary, elementary........I don't believe I was "taken in".
(1) The recipes from Buffy are genuine
(I'm wasn't so sure about the spahetti soup until I found a recipe for
such a creation and I found a recipe for salt pork stewed in milk in a classic
Americana sort of cook book. I found a recipe for oatmeal soup in one of
Marion Cunningham's books)
I can't verify the baked (mountain) oysters recipe (my books only mention a
Basque preparation)...but then I wouldn't knowingly eat that food anyway.
(2) and almost all of them are good recipes (a few I'd acknowledge are not
what I'd cook)...but almost all of them I'd freely try. The ingredients,
proportions of ingredients, cooking methods, etc., are realistic and
appropriate.
Whether I'd use a canned white sauce or hollandaise....unlikely, but using a
canned sauce vs. a freshly prepared sauce does not render a recipe bad (any
more than using canned chicken broth instead of fresh does not make a recipe
bad).
(3) the language or tone sounds quite authentic in Buffy's postings...she
isn't trying for humor or "country" or folksy.
None of that can be said for Effie's postings. Effie is obviously playing with
some of Buffy's postings (e.g., poor man's fried chicken; the frequent
references to Velveeta, etc.) and is a fairly crude copycat.
Effie's recipes are a combination of what sounds on the surface like a good
mix and what are hoax ingredients.
Effie's tone is trying--and trying---and trying--to be country and folksy,
almost hypomanic trying to portray the good little wifey....
The many postings at one time, separated by just fractions of a minute, are
those of someone spamming or setting out a troll. This is more hee-haw humor
by the uninspired.
So...that's why I believe Buffy is genuine and Effie is not.

Lead me not into temptation... I can find it myself!

Ooops. That's happened a few times .
Two of us are using this machine, with separate screen names.
QuinceyCat is the male half of the household.
Every so often, by general inattention, one of us neglects to change the
sign-on screen name---we use the same password. There have been a few postings
made by one under the screen name of the other---a problem (for us) only if we
disagree on a particular subject. We don't disagree in any significant way
about the Buffy bashing.
Almost always Mcc6050 is myself and QuinceyCat is himself....hmmmm. Sounds
like the beginning of a "Through the Looking Glass" episode.
ROTFL!!!!
