Thanksgiving Dinner at Daughter-In-Law's (Closed Restaurant)

YAY!! Our D-I-L owns a tavern/restaurant which she is closing for the
holiday & preparing a (Prime Rib) dinner & trimmings for her family & her
partner's family. Cool!! Gonna be good to be a guest for once!

Talk about open bar! (Of course, it's open to me anytime, tho). Industrial
dishwasher, lots of room, good times. All the kids can run around without
interference from pesky customers. Woo Hoo!!

Now the bad news: I'm putting on a holiday dinner for my wife's family on
Sunday (most won't be at the Thursday dinner). About 28 people at our
house. (PITA). Turkey, pulled pork, smashed garlic red potatoes with
parsnips, roast Brussels sprouts, peas, corn, roasted butternut squash with
balsamic vinegar, hot dinner rolls & tossed salad. Others can bring
desserts. I'll make coffee, and clean up. The good news: it's at 1:00
p.m., so I'll have TIME to clean up. I have dialysis the next day at 9:00
a.m., so I'm gonna be beat!

Al;-in-all, life is good!

Youse lucky lucky guys! I just hope you're not leaving ALL the
cooking and the prep to the D-I-L . . . unless of course she wants it
that way! Good luck with the dinner at your house. Pace yourself!

Where did the idea for pulled pork come from in this otherwise
traditional meal? Is that something traditional for your family?

And you'll be well fed and rested in time for the Texas/Texas A&M game.

Ohmy.. I mistakenly read Friday instead of Sunday. Sorry. Game over by
then. Scratch that idea.
...still curious about the addition of pulled pork to such a traditional
meal though? :)

My in-laws have been in love with my pulled pork ever since I got my smoker
8 years ago. There's a good chance some of them will be tired of turkey by
the time Sunday rolls around, so I need to do a second meat dish. I wanted
to do a ham, but got talked out of it. Besides, I haven't smoked a pork
butt in about 4 months. *AND*, I'm gonna do that one ahead on Saturday,
along with the butternut squash. They'll both beat up better-n-new on
Sunday.
