This week's project
These 25lb 2" thick round washed gravel over cement pavers were
buried in the back yard, most of them under a big patch of wild
garlic. I dug up 18 of them and have since spotted another 2 to make
a 6th row (but I don't have enough brick for the extra 18" of edging
- not sure if I like that brick anyway).

I'm still trying to find enough washed round stones to fill in gaps.
That gravel didn't work for me. I'm gradually stealing round washed
rock and shale rocks from wherever I see them - but you can only
carry so many rock in a backpack at one time. Most of them so far
are from Costco or the CapMetro Transit Centers ;-)
Everything is perfectly flat with weed guard underneath. I had to
wait for rains to make mud and then used a lawn aerator roller
thingy to smoosh it all up and then a hoe to grade it. That started
6 or so weeks ago (not much rain lately) and I did a few times to
let it settle and re-graded.
I don't have a wheelbarrow or a dolly, but why make 9 trips to carry
2 of these pavers *around* the side of the house over uneven
terrain? That would be 900 yards total, 450 of those yards carrying
50lbs each. The shortest distance between two points is an (almost
straight) line - from the back kitchen door to the frotn steps is
only 25 yards. 250 yards... still too much walking (plus I dont'
ahevg any back porch so its a 3 ft drop out that door).
Lazy ness to teh recue. I took a 2' square piece of 3/4" cabinet
grade plywood, 4 casters (only two of which pivot) and screwed those
in there. Saw a carpet remnant and staple-gunned that to the wood.
And presto: A paver stone dolly.

(OK - yeah, I understand if you don't want me to decorate your
birthday cake).
I put the dolly inside th back kitchen door and loaded it from
outside with 18 of those pavers in one stack 40" tall and weighing
almost 450 pounds and pushed it, using the hoe, through the kitchen,
dining room, living room, and foyer, and out onto the front porch.
25 yards *ONE* TRIP!
OK, so who was that triangle... Pythogorus? He/she said, "a^2 + b^2
= c^2" IIRC. Lets see - 12" pavers x 5 feet on the right edges
would be (5x5)+(5x5) = 50. Square root of 50 is about 7 feet for
the new "shortcut", while the old "route" was 10 feet, saving me 3
feet each x ~500 walks a year for a total savings of <cha-ching!>
500 yards of walking a year and
ObFood: And conserving 40 calories! I'll just eat two less french
fries per year! Woo hoo!
Total Cost: $0 - including the sex.
