Dinner tonight is a hot roast beef sandwich topped with provolone on a
buttered toasted roll. A handful of Lays potato chips will accompany
it. Hey, two carbs on one plate! ;)

For tomorrow I'm thinking Tex-Mex tacos (crisp corn tortilla shells).

LOL They weren't chips, they were crisps and I didn't put the crisps
*on* the sandwich, although I've been known to put them on a hamburger

They taste weird and artificial. And they have an unpleasant, almost
pre-chewed texture.

I'll take regular potato chips any day. Lay's Wavy chips are my
standard, although once in a while I buy a bag of Better Made
"Rainbow" chips, which are extra dark. Better Made is a local
Detroit brand.

I don't mind them. Pringles was one of the weird things we discovered
after living 2 years in Thailand. Came back to find pressed & formed
stackable chips in cans. The only reason Bryan brought them up is
another lame stab at my age. BTW, I have all my natural teeth. I

Mystery meat! ;) I've got an extra package of ground chuck. I'll be
using the old Tupperware hamburger press to form a stack of burgers for
the freezer. It's a handy tool. Mom had a friend who sold Tupperware
so she bought my brothers and me a set of them in the 1980's.

I still have many Tupperware things from the early 1980's. Good products
that last forever (at least 40 years).

Ground chuck: I moved a 2.27lb package from the freezer to the fridge
yesterday morning (about 24 hours ago). My plan was to make a 3+ lb meat
loaf later this morning. Won't happen today. Meat is still mostly
frozen. Will make it tomorrow late morning instead.

You know the cold water defrosting trick, right? Put the package in a
large zip-lock bag and set it in a pan or sink full of cold water. It
will be defrosted in about 30 minutes. Or you could make the meatloaf
tomorrow. :)

I went to a fancy café once for breakfast and had a "bacon
doorstep". Two, very thick slices of white bread, slathered
with butter and sandwiching lightly cooked slices of back
bacon.
Healthy? Hell no! But utterly delicious:-)

My dyslexia read that as "doorstop" but after re-reading it I realized
it could have been either. Sounds delicious. Personally, I would prefer
thinner slices of bread. The corner bakery coffee shop mages great
sandwiches on their tasty freshly made bread. I find those thick slices
of bread to be a little too much. Thick slices are for butter and jam,
not for sandwiches.

I buy about 99% of my bread from a great bakery in town or one in
St.Catharines. They both have a great wholewheat sourdough and good
whole grain. The one on town has a fairly think slicer which works
great for the wholegrain but not as well for the denser sourdough. Te
other on has a thinner slicer. IMO it cuts too thin for the whole grain,
but I prefer the thinner slice for the sourdough.

Fries on a sandwich (Primanti Bro's style) is just awful and super dry.
They load it up with sweet coleslaw, which makes it less dry, but too
big to eat... not to mention gross with the sweet taste.

I've had fries on a "steak salad" many times. Unless I'm very hungry,
I'd rather not, but before RFC, I thought that was a normal thing with
"steak salad" everywhere... I guess it's just where I live.

BJs has a six pack for $16.99 or $2.83 each. Works out to $3.77 a

I've had a slice fried, but I agree, too salty. Diced up into scrambled
eggs, and you don't have to salt the eggs. Less salt into a potato or
whatever casserole with the addition of SPAM also.

In Canada, the second ingredient is "glucose-fructose", which is
high-fructose syrup of some sort (possibly corn).

In the U.S., it has high-fructose corn syrup as its only sweetener.
Good grief. It has at most 12% fruit juice. The rest is sugar
water.

When I was a kid, it probably had sucrose from plain old sugar.

What are the good things in orange juice? Vitamin C? Fiber? Big deal!
I opened up a sealed 8 oz bottle of low fat milk from McDonald's this morning to put some in my cereal. I tasted it first - it was sour. I dumped it in the sink. That was a mistake. The next time, I going to use it to make waffles, or cornbread. An 8 oz bottle of cultured milk would be pretty handy. I'm going to try to make some more.

That's why I rarely drink juice. I'd rather eat fruit and get the
full benefit of the fiber. Apples, cherries, prunes, nectarines
in the summer, various berries. About once a year I buy a five-pound
bag of oranges.

I love oranges but citrus doesn't like me so I rarely drink orange
juice. I like to get the 2 qt jugs of pineapple juice (from concentrate
and no added sugar). We also go through a lot of sour cherry juice
concentrate from a local farm/processor, and local apple cider which is
usually available until late spring.

Spare me your hysterical rantings. You never say a thing about the your native people's culture, history, language, or food. You think the natives of your land are mostly invisible and ignorable. You say you don't hate them but mostly you just tolerate them.

Indeed, these are the lands of the kanaka maoli, and they deserve to get their sovereignty and land back. If they want us to get out, I can't blame them. It's their land. If I sound holier than thou, it's probably because I am.

My wife bought 3 lbs of kulolo. When we opened one up, it wasn't quite set. I stuck it in the pressure cooker and steamed them for an hour and a half. Perhaps it wasn't quite done or perhaps it was the type of taro used.

One would think, but perhaps accepting the taste is more of a situation
involving "acquired taste". If you drank artifically sweetened drinks
for decades, you probably don't notice anything different.

it pretty nasty. After I had heart surgery my wife was foisting diet
soft drinks on me and I found most of them so nasty. She was whining to
my son about me not wanting to drink diet pop. He questioned her about
why she was pushing the stuff on me and pointed out that I rarely drank
pop. However... he introduced me to Diet Dr.Pepper. It was one sugar
free pop that actually tasted better than the sugared version.

I agree, although people ask how I can drink black coffee. I don't
know, but I don't think it tasted good at first. I won't drink it any
other way, now.

I've heard that before, but I've never tried the diet Dr Pepper variety.
I used to drink Dr Pepper semi-regularly, but I haven't in years.
It's still the only can of soda that I can actually finish if I start
one (at a picnic or something). I really don't care for fizzy or sugary
drinks, and I never buy them. Pepsi is the worst... it's so sweet, that
I can hardly stomach half of the can.

This was started by a bad bottle of McDonald's milk. It was in the car for a couple of hours. Then it was refrigerated for a few days. When I opened it up, most if it was turned into yogurt. I like yogurt. I used to make yogurt with I was a kid. Unfortunately, I've left the fresh bottle of milk out for days and it's still liquid. It's possible that the milk was mishandled somewhere along the supply chain before it got to me. I'll stick it in the refrigerator and give it a week.
