Hi!

I caught a refurbished Air Fryer for 29$ at Amazon. I'd been curious
about them for some time. It's the Dart 1.2L version. Not super fancy
but I wanted something right for a small 1-2 serving.

https://www.amazon.com/photos/shared/cLLEgpfORQef0oGNCkjblg.hCFfLHdQtZfl0wEzIkmczy

They are (were actually) more golden than the lighting makes it look.

Cut 1 large potato (we leave skin on) and soak in cool water for 30
minutes then rinse and let dry for about 30 minutes.

In a large ziplock add 1/2 ts cornstarch, 1/4 ts smoked black pepper
and 1/2 ts 'dry onion rub' (or other spice blend you like). Mix then
add potatoes and a 'squizzle' of olive oil. (might be as much as 1/2 ts
oil in a squizzle ;-)

Toss about to coat evenly then put in air fryer basket at 400F for 10
minutes then shake and another 10 minutes.

The smaller ones came out perfectly. The fatter ones were good but not
as crispy.

Charlotte tried it next on 5 totinos pizza bites, 10 mins at 375F and
they were alnost overdone.

Yes, grin, my kitchen was messy and we plan to replace the counter top
sometime soon. I haven't found the right countertop yet. Former owner
scored it up pretty bad instead of using a cutting block.

I would recommend that you use a mandolin to get your fries as near
the same size. Also for a 10 minute cook time you need to shake
often.... shake your fries three or four times during the cooking it
heaps with a more even cooking.

Not only does it use less oil and is far more healthy for you it is
also a great investment. The money I have saved on oil has already
paid for the machine. All the money I save on electricity is just a
bonus.

Apoligies. It is Dash not Dart. A simple low end machine.

Naw, medical issues require low sodium here.

I think normally we will go with frozen ones in thin cut.

Intention was a fast fix sort of thing.

Thanks! I had minor out patient surgery Friday on my leg (nothing
horrid) so was limited to standing. I made some home fun with no trip
to the store using what was handy.

If you add a little salt it helps to leech out the starch making a
better french fry

After you soak the fries empty them into a strainer and rinse any salt
that may have attached to the fries off.

I do hope you are double frying your fries..

after you rinse them dry pat them dry coat them with a couple of
teaspoons of olive oil shake them in the strainer to spread the oil
then single fry them for about 20 minutes at 300 f When done freeze
them. Take the out and use when wanted. Just fry them at 400 f until
they have reached the color that you want, it varies with each
machine.

Using a mandolin to ensure the fries are a uniform size works
perfectly. Buying premade fries is bad.. real bad..

so much for a low starch diet.

Get a mandolin, I got mine from dollar tree for 1 dollar (I think) it
may have been walmart but still inexpensive just be very careful when
using those things.

>
>Intention was a fast fix sort of thing.

you want a fast fix buy you a large container that will fit in your
freezer...

cut several pounds of potatoes (whatever will fit in your machine) I
have found that when using a bucket machine like the one you have it
is best to stand the fries up on end and start stacking them against
the edges unless you only have a small order.

anyway get that large container and fill it up with fries that you
have cut and precooked. so when you want a quick fix for fries or a
snack just go to the freezer and grab the amount you want and throw
them in at 400F or whatever the max temp is for your machine and let
them go for a few minutes and you are done... you can get potatoes
from a farmers market for less than a dollar a pound.

You can have you several pounds of fries at your disposal for just a
few dollars which will be A GOOD bit lower in sodium than that store
bought chemically infused potato's.

We got an air fryer a month or two ago and have been getting good use

We have kept it simple. We have tried them with and without the peel and
we both agreed they are better without. We peel and slice the potatoes
and soak them for at least 20 minutes. Dump the water, pat the chips
dry, toss in a bowl with about 1/2 tblsp light olive oil and then cook
in a preheated air fryer for 18 -20 minutes, tossing them half way through.

I think you'll really like it and does a quick job on most foods and so little
oil. Pam in an aerosol can or in pump bottle is good, too. Fried chicken in
a skillet is wonderful but oh, that mess of splattering grease to clean up.
No splattering grease when the air fryer is used.

They are never better without, the taste does not really change at
all, but you are getting a good dose of vitamin c when you leave the
skin on.

It'd not hard to beat McD's French fries, since these are the
ingredients:

Ingredients: Potatoes, Vegetable Oil (Canola Oil, Corn Oil, Soybean
Oil, Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Natural Beef Flavor [Wheat and Milk
Derivatives]*), Dextrose, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate (Maintain Color),
Salt. *Natural beef flavor contains hydrolyzed wheat and hydrolyzed
milk as starting ingredients.

"Natural beef flavor" in fries, wtf?

Somehow, I expected the first letters of these ingredients to spell
the word G A R Y.

"As for that "natural beef flavor," that was added in when the company
stopped frying its fries in beef fat. Other than the fact that it
contains hydrolyzed wheat and hydrolyzed milk (hydrolysis is the
process of breaking chemical bonds by adding water; due to an amino
acid reaction, it results in a “beefy” flavor), there’s no word as to
what else goes into it."

Well what I do is make some chili or hamburgers and when I am done I
drain the beef fat and run it through a coffee filter and put it in

When I make the frys I melt the fat and spread it over the

It doesn't help that it was vertical grade laminate rather than

Cool! We are liking the simplicity and basics of it. Wanna bet it can
do fried okra nicely?

Salt will soak into the potatoes via osmosis - same goes for any
brine. It's not something you can rinse away.

Meanwhile, the salt does nothing to remove starch that the water
isn't already doing.

So for the last 20+ posts on the subject you've been telling people
how to make shitty fries?

You're the one that said to soak in salt water, duh! And yes, you
ARE supposed to soak them, up to overnight.

You didn't even mention rising with your fist post on the topic a
few days ago. You can't even cook French fries without flopping
over the place with different directions. So why bother even
telling us how to do frecnh fries?

No dude they are not beans, they already contain lots of moisture,
soaking them rinses the starch that is on the outer edges of the cut
potatoes, and yes the salt will help to remove that. Rinsing them in a
strainer until the water runs clear does the exact same thing only
faster, cut maybe not as completely.

And yes rinsing them with salt will increase the sodium of the
potatoes a small bit but it will still be a good bit less than the
store bought crap.

I have been cooking fries in the air fryer for over a year now, I have
developed a way to make them tasty and crispy without being burnt. so
this is why I bother telling you how to do french fries.

Perhaps only real beef. Ever consider that?

No problem there. Those big words that you don't understand scare
you, don't they?

When soaking raw cut potatoes a bit, I wonder if you soaked them
in a strong beef stock would flavor them a bit rather than using
beef fat for cooking? I normally make my own fries from fresh
cut potatoes. They always turn out fantastic. Cut with skins on.
Ever hear of "Boardwalk Fries?"

Then they wouldn't say "natural beef flavor". When the food industry
says "natural flavor", you gotta run.

I just responded to this but now I can't find it. So, I will have
another go and if the other one turns up, apols.

I always go immediately into my Gdaughters group. I then click on 'home'
at the top and it opens up the posts in the groups I read - in succession
IYSWIM

The posts are up to date. Try it.

For example it might start with some of the posts in her group, but
then go on to Air fryer and further down to Slow cookers. You can see which
one you are in on the left. If at the top you find you are in a particular
group, click again on 'home'! Give it a try:))

I only found it when I was messing around and it is most handy:))
