Why do raisins fall off my dough? (Bread Machine)

I have recently bought a Hitachi bread machine and I'm really
enjoying it - less labour intensive than my morning espresso!

My biggest problem so far is in making Raisin Bread. When the machine
beeps for me to add in the raisins, I do, slowly as suggested, but
they simply fall off the spinning dough onto the bottom of the
container where they turn into a gooey coating on the bottom of the
bread! The loaf is perfect - just missing raisins. :-(

Is it simply that my dough is not wet enough? I am following the
directions exactly and the bread as I say is fine.

Thanks for any help!

BTW, Someone with a B&D machine mentioned a table which gives
suggestions on what to do when the bread does not work out. The
Hitachi has a similar table but it is almost completely
unintelligible (not sure if this is only true for the Canadian
version or not). It would be nice to compile something like this
for an FAQ on bread machines (which I have never been able to find).

It may help if you toss the raisins with a tablespoon of flour
or so before adding them to the dough.

Peter, before adding the raising, sprinkle some flour on them, so they'll
stick to the dough as your putting them in.

The best solution since you're hanging around anyway is to
wait until after the second kneading, i.e. just before the
first rising, take the dough out of the pan and briefly knead
the raisins in just enough to mix throughout the dough. Put
the dough back in the pan. The machine and the bread will
never know the difference! The advantage is that none of the
raisins will get mangled; when they do they give a bitter taste
to the bread. I can also take the paddle out at this point so
there's a smaller hole in the bottom of the bread.

My machine does this too. Out of frustration, I took the dough out after
the first rising, patted it fairly flat, sprinkled raisins,
sugar/cinnamon and broken pecans on it, rolled it up, and rose/baked it
in a conventional bread pan. Now my wife won't eat it any other way!
