Weeks ago on Jan. 2, two of us checked with the IRS on its website. She and I both received notifications that our checks went out on Jan. 6, 2021.

Today is January 21, and neither of us has received the second $600 stimulus check. And now IRS says it's not going to mail any more, as of almost two weeks ago, the 12th, if I remember correctly. Why is that and how can that be?

Nor can you go to the IRS site NOW and find out if your check has been mailed, or to track it, although IRS has publicized that those services are available. That service was how we found that our checks had been mailed, or so we were told.

We are both on SS fixed income and overburdened with medical debt and property taxes, so you can imagine how badly we need that money. I had to park my 25-year-old Ford Taurus because the transmission went out. It might as well be junked and I owe $500 on it. Her car, an old 2011 Scion, has all the engine lights on. She is two payments behind and afraid it will be repossessed.

We are not improvident or big spenders. We have both had serious, and expensive, problems with our health -- leukemia, asthma, congestive heart failure, worn-out joints and spinal columns, and unexplained depression other than from having to shelter alone in place. She can hardly walk from one room to the other, and there's no way she can go back to work.

I'm in my late seventies and no longer employable. I have tried to find work without success. Love of money may be the root of all evil, but I believe that it may be the lack of money which is the root of all evil.

Our fridge died a year ago, we can no longer use the sink in the bathroom because of a drainage pipe leak in the basement, our washer has quit, our water heater needs service, the roof leaks, gutter is falling off, the furnace is acting up, creditors come banging on our door, tv cable is turned off for nonpayment, and both of our dogs are elderly, sick, and need veterinary care.

She has been very depressed lately and told me yesterday she wished she could just lay down and die. She said that death would relieve her of all the sad things that constantly worry her. So I watch her most all the time to make sure she doesn't try to kill herself. Personally, I believe that her love for the doggies is all that keeps her alive.

For 2020, I doubt he would be required to.
No tenants that whole year?
Only income was the stimulus check last spring.

Would still be smart to file though. He might get some "poor ppl" refund
just by showing no income.

I heard the details about the stimulus checks just last week.
The IRS does require you to declare that, but they don't tax it.
I had wondered about that.

Thanks for that, John. You're the first I know that has received one. At
least I know now to look for one soon.

I do know that the USPO is running very late with mail recently. I get
emails from them saying that.

I hope for a direct deposit but last spring, mine came as a check. They
have both my mailing address and also my bank #'s for direct deposit.

Also, remember, they are planning to send out a second one soon for
$1400 more. :-) I like that plan!

When mine were simple, I did them with a pen, and forms picked up from

My second stimulus check was electronically deposited into my savings
account December 31/January 1. As was the first one within days of
passing it back in the spring.

If you have your IRS refund check automatically deposited into your bank
account your stimulus checks should go directly into that.

I used to do my taxes "by hand" but started using an accountant when I
began my consulting practice over 30 years ago. Although now retired, I
still use the same accountant because I just cannot fathom out all the
intricacies of reporting investment, pension and old age security
incomes etc.

I am no official documents person. Yet I did all the taxes for when
we had a home business and now do our regular taxes. During this time
we had income from another state. This is just a leadup to suggesting
you get a copy of Turbotax and see if you can work your way through
it.
Every question has a 'what is this? clickable that explains
everything. What form number you need, where to look, everything. The
cost of Turbotax at between $40 and $100 is a lot cheaper than the
$600+ you'll be paying for a tax preparer.
If I can do it you can do it. ;)

zero gasoline and use zero carbon emissions that generate electricity

Meanwhile, you do not take into account the fact that a paper check had
to be cut and mailed to you. Kill a few trees, why dontcha? Is your
mail delivered via electric car from the IRS? Nope. Much gasoline was
burned as those snail mail checks were delivered. Just wasn't in your
gas burning van.

If you earn enough income to file taxes there will be a space (or two)
on the 2021 form dealing with everything Covid. I'm sure they're
working on changing many forms right now to adjust to the variations in
income vs. prior years. No one could have foreseen the pandemic or the
issuance of so many stimulus checks.

I checked the status of my check on IRS web site. Mine was direct
deposited on January 4th, in the savings account I specified last year
for the first one. It's not an account I dip into or even look at very
often, that's why it's called "savings". :)

Problem with me... last IRS tax filing, I didn't expect a refund so I
didn't write my bank info. They do have it from previous years though.
SS has it though for direct deposits each month.

From now on, I'll include my bank info on my tax returns, refund or not.

Last spring, I got a real check for the stimulus but they could do that
either way.

I did get a debit card for a state refund one year.
