I called the number that Ross gave me. The man gave me a headache! He
started by saying very flatly. "This is not a recording!" Then he launched
into Shakespeare because he thought I said my name was Juliette. Then
something about a guy called him to put the mailbox in. He put it in and we
have to pay the guy. He wants me to send him a pic of the mailbox. Why? I
don't know.

When I told him that it wasn't the right mailbox, he said the guy ordered a
10 slot. They don't make them that way. They never did. Ours was in fact a 9
slot. The closest thing they had was a 12 slot but for some reason he
convinced the guy to take a 13 slot. Something about the slots were bigger
so maybe we didn't need package lockers. Pretty sure this unit has one
package locker. Said if we wanted package lockers, we'd have to pay for and
put another unit in.

So... I'm still just a confused. I still have no key. But Ross is messaging
me. He sent me a scan of the invoice. Not sure how he got that. Said he
thought the keys were not done yet and the guy would contact us when they
were done. Sometime this week. He too said we each owe $200. Hmmm...

I can't say what you should do but I'd just tell him that I no contract or verbal agreement with him but $100 would be agreeable to me. If it was agreeable with him, I'd give him the hundred bucks in cash when he gave me the key - preferably at the box so the key can be verified to work. Easy as pie.

But without large package lockers how will you survive? You order
most of your food, remember?

Maybe she can install one of those tracker apps onto a cell phone and
mail it to herself. At least that way, she would know where her mail is
going.

At the moment, the only suggestion I can think of that is more
complicated is afixing insufficient postage to ensure that it gets
returned to sender, as well as renting a PO box for the return address.

Ahh, but my good Hank, (assuming it is not the bad Hank I'm talking to),
this is perfect. What better way to insure insufficient postage than to
'forget' to afix *any* postage?

Here's an old funny. When my daughter was off to college (UVA),
I got a letter from her once with no stamp. Stamps cost about
33 cents each then.

She didn't have a stamp available so she scotch-taped
3 dimes and 3 pennies to the envelope.

My guess it that the postal workers saw that and laughed
so they did send it on to me with the coins still attached.
Maybe the college return address helped. Wacky college kids.

Amazon sends us lots of food items, usually through USPS or UPS. I
think which carrier depends on from which Amazon warehouse. A lot of
food items can be purchased from Amazon for lower prices than from
grocery stores. We don't buy perishables from Amazon but we do buy a
lot of foods in cans, jars, boxes. Amazon has the best deal on
spices/dried herbs, usually in restaurant sized containers... if you
use a lot of peppercorns Amazon is the place to buy, and I find no
difference in quality than from Penzeys. In fact Amazon's seems
fresher and is packaged better; 1 1/3 pounds of white peppercorns
comes in a rectangular plastic container. I save those rectangular
plastic containers in various sizes, they take up less freezer space
than cylinders.

Amazon beats your local pharmacy on OTC meds... I save even more by
adding some items to their Subscribe & Save program.

there's a new Dunkin Donuts in the middle of the parking lot that

area, that strip mall contains three banks. These days there's no
escape from cameras, every business has them, every cell phone.

Appropos of nothing, there is a communal mailbox like that in the strip
mall where I worked at H&R Block last year. The people I worked with
(one woman, Estella, had been there 30 years) had no idea we even had a
mailbox. All the mail was supposed to be delivered to the larger H&R
office on the other side of town. One day someone from the USPS came in
and said they were going to re-key all those boxes because they had a
new mail carrier taking over that route; how many keys would we need?
Estella said "We have a mailbox?" LOL

If you're the kind of person that hates to be conned into being forced to buy stuff without an agreement, you could also rent a mailbox from the post office or a mail box service. In my case, that would be easy enough since the PO is located down the street. My guess it that it might be a hassle to get to yours.

In our condo, it took quite a while to agree on a design for new mail box installation. It seemed like a lot of fuss but our new mail boxes are back loaded and more roomy. Quite efficient! We also have a spiffy set of parcel lockers. The new boxes will fit our mailing needs well into the future.

Saw a funny Hamlet segment in a movie once.

I do remember a school field trip to watch the play,
"Taming of the Shrew." On the way there, I was expecting
a play about a mouse-like creature. DOH!

They stream past Shakespeare plays at a few websites like PBS.

At least you knew that a shrew was a small, mouse-like creature. We don't have no stinkin' shrews here. I saw that play in grade school. It was a barrel of laughs - not! OTOH, Lawrence Harvey as Hamlet is a role not to be missed!

Free for kid me. Don't know if mom and dad paid.

Many of my school years were in the Washington DC
suburbs and so many of our school field trips were
to tourist attractions in the nations capital.

The White House
Supreme Court building
Capital building
Lincoln and Jefferson memorials
A few to Smithsonian museum buildings
Washington monument
National Art gallery on and on...

Even a trip to Mt.Vernon once where George Washington
lived. The guide there pointed out the actual bed that
he died on. TMO

Your parents likely paid via school taxes.

When we lived in Virginia when I was a kid I went on separate school
field trips to Monticello, Mount Vernon and the Smithsonian.

Monticello was way cool because Thomas Jefferson had a bed set in the
wall between his bedroom and his office. He could get out of bed in
either room, depending on where he wanted to be. Jefferson invented the
"Lazy Susan" and the Dumb Waiter. We all know he owned slaves; he
didn't want the slaves listening in to dinner conversations so he the
food was delivered via a series of pullies. Only the most trusted staff
was allowed in the room to serve and (we were told) they were dismissed
as soon as the food was on the table.

I have several Lazy Susans in my kitchen. One is right next to the
stove for things I often reach for when I'm cooking.

Oh dear, about Monticello, look at this:

https://www.monticello.org/

Monticello has re-opened in the wake of Covid-19. How sad is it to see
kids in that image wearing face masks? <sigh>

Anyway, when we went to the Smithsonian on the field trip the teachers
suggested we bring some "pocket money" in case we wanted to buy
souveniers in the gift shop. I bought a couple of Audubon bird prints.
Parakeets! I still have those Audubon prints. :)

I've had a PO Box most of my life, since I was seven years old. I
never found it any hassle... I don't go to the PO Box every day, twice
a week is plenty... and the area with the PO Boxes is always
accessable. It's only if there's a notice to pick up a package at the
counter after hours that I need to return in a day or two, I've never
gotten any package that I needed right away. And since I order a lot
of mail order items the post office is heated so liquids won't freeze.
I can specify mail orders be sent to the PO Box or to our house.
whichever is more convenient for me... at the house it goes to our
country mail box and that freezes in winter. PO Box rental is not
expensive unless you want/need a large box. I rent the smallest size
and it costs only $35/yr... I consider that a bargain. I never need
to deal with all the foibles that Julie has. If I'm waiting for
something in particular I can phone the post office and ask if it's
there before I make the trip, but maybe I phoned 2-3 times in nearly
20 years. I go into town a couple times a week anyway so I usually
check the PO Box, not always, not if I just checked the day before...
it's only 3 1/2 miles to the post office, and there's no traffic here.

Which, actually, wasn't a bad movie. Then again, I have a "thing" for

I have 2 hardback books here now of Audubon prints.

Yes... always took some pocket money for souvenirs.
I also did two all-day Saturday field trips then.
One to New York City, and one to Jamestown-Williamsburg.

When my daughter was in elementary school and I was the
"room mother" I did the Jamestown-Williamsburg trip
again like 25 years later, as a chaperone.
I appreciated the history of it all more as an adult.

Maybe, this one?
<https://postimg.cc/rDySZwX8>
I have the 1941 printing of “Birds of America”. Every page could be put
in a frame, but that would ruin the book. Wanna see a great auk or a
passenger pigeon? Maybe an ivory billed woodpecker? They go well with the
Carolina paraquet. Every print in the book is exquisite.
I grew up with “Birds of America” while being babysat in a neighbor’s
house and acquired a decent knowledge of American bird taxonomy from it. I
searched Ebay, or somewhere online, for the book I remembered, about ten
years ago, and got a pretty decent rendition for about thirty bucks. I feel
lucky.

Hmm...the last movie I just recently saw him in was “Calamity Jane”,
because I have a “thing” for Doris Day. Thanks, TCM!

I last saw AMND at the Globe in London's South Bank. The production in
this replica of a theatre from Shakespeare's time was truly magical.
