My Turn to Say "I can't find..."

I haven't heard much about St. Patrick's Day this year and in fact it
crept up on me. So I went to Publix after work today. They had Murphy
& David's corned beef brisket listed in the weekly ad, on sale for
$3.99/lb. Except they didn't have any. The only corned beef brisket
they had was Boar's Head brand at $10.99/lb!! Yikes and no thanks! (For
some odd reason it was in the produce department next to the squash.)

They also haven't had any sea scallops (frozen in a bag or thawed
"previously frozen" in the seafood case) the last few weeks. With all
the recent talk about sea scallops I was really hoping they'd have
gotten some in, but no... just the small frozen Patagonian scallops. I
like those but that's not what I wanted.

Food Lion had corned beef brisket for $3.49/lb; they ran out, too. That
store has never had a good selection of seafood and sure enough, no sea
scallops in any form.

Guess I'll just have to forego the corned beef on Sunday. And the sea
scallops for a while. :(

I did pick up a cabbage and new potatoes because I like those just fine
even without corned beef but still... you know how it goes when you get
your heart set on something and can't find it!

I snagged mine Wednesday at Kroger but did see where Aldi has theirs advertised
for $2.99 per pound. Not a single one to be found in their store. But I did
find them at Wally World on Wednesday, also $3.99 per pound, and Grobbel/Grobel
was the brand name.

Thing about that... it is a christian aka catholic (all christians are
catholic) thing
Everyone hated Hitler for what he did to the jews, how he committed
genocide by killing over 6 million jews, most through torture. There

most of the world. The funny thing about christians is they did THE
EXACT SAME thing, on numerous occasions, to numerous religious groups

I've had that brand; it's fine. It may sound like an excuse but after
checking in two stores I just didn't feel like also stopping at Wally
World. I was tired and just wanted to get home.

I guess your stores (and mine) just didn't stock up enough. You'd think
they'd know how many to order from prior year sales. Oh well! At least
you got corned beef brisket. :)

St. Patties day has nothing to do with jesus it is the other christian
deity aka a god that is called st patrick. By wearing green or
drinking green beer one signifies that it is a christian aka catholic
that is worshiping st patrick therefore making st partick a god/deity

Man them christians/catholics are more pagan and have more deities
than the greeks or the romans combined.

Lucky you! I was surprised by the guy who showed me where the Boar's
Head brand corned beef was. He didn't know corned beef isn't
pre-cooked. He kept saying "we have some uncooked Boars Head corned
beef" as he walked me to the Produce department. I gagged when I saw
the price. But I chuckled and said, "Let's turn it over and look at the
*cooking* instructions." He said, "Oh! Cooking instructions!"

Well hey, the thought of using corned beef (in any form) in cabbage
rolls never occurred to me. I honestly don't know what to think about
the idea. It doesn't sound bad, just... would need some adjusting. The
cabbage rolls my mother made I'm used to have a tomato sauce base and
sour cream... I don't think that would work at all well with corned
beef. As you say, it would need to be changed. I can't think of what
to change it to.

It's St. Paddy's day heathen! Our club held an awards ceremony for da kids but I have a tendency to mix up my patron saints and wound up at the wrong hall. That's what I get for not being Catholic! It's a good thing that the luck'o the Irish was be me and I got to the place in time. The kids and the parents and the teachers had a great time.

Oh, St Patrick yes, thanks. Not something I'm familiar with, but if it
involved good beer, why not? And I believe he chased all the snakes

You think that Hawaiians drink green beer because you're clueless gal that never had to use her wits throughout life and you don't even know about the culture and customs of white people in America. Drinking green beer is what crazy ass white folks do on St. Paddy's Day on the mainland - not Hawaii. We don't have any Irish on this rock because the snakes drove them off a long time ago. :)

I don't know many people who celebrate St.Patrick's day. I have some
Irish ancestry and it means nothing to me. My mother used to cook
corned beef and cabbage, never a favourite of mine. I don't go out to
bars for the event. I have never in my life had green beer. However, it
seems to be commonly seen as an excuse to go out and get drunk.

It's very much an American thing. From cardboard leprechauns to green
beer, the entire thing was invented whole cloth by sentimental
Irish-Americans, and fed by the greeting-card/industrial complex.

I have a photo of myself about 60 years ago wearing a green cardboard
hat.

Lots of folks in NYC celebrate St. Padddy's Day, besides green beer
there are green bagels, but not all that many get drunk... the drunks
don't need a holiday to get plastered. Even where I live there's a
large Irish population, some towns have several Irish Pubs/Taverns,
however mostly they go to pig out on the traditional foods... most
families can't be bothered cooking and baking for two days, it's a lot
easier to eat those foods out, and enjoy the holiday music, singing,
and dancing. I don't think any ethnicity has a lock on drunkeness...
as I said, sots don't need an excuse, rolling out of bed is all the
excuse they need.

In 72-73 I had a roommate from Nebraska. He told me that in
Nebraska, red beer was a popular drink. It was beer mixed with
tomato juice. I tried it once. It was ok but I never had any
more.

Tomato beer seems to have been a short fad in the early seventies, at
least where I grew up. The faddists then found lite beer which is
apparently better. I never tried tomato beer and have only had lite by
accident once or twice.
