Similar to the old, "don't take candy from a stranger" thing. If someone
I didn't know gave me some homemade candy (or other prepared food), I
would thank them then, after they left, probably throw it all away.

Important at this early stage would be to do the necessary work as
required and build a good relationship with the patient and the family.
He got the job but he still has to get along with them well so they will
want to keep him.
