I always wondered about them. The Carriage House (no longer there) boasted
of using their meats. And countless people raved about how good those meats
were and how we were so lucky to have a place on base that sold them.

I didn't particular care for the place as it was a very old building and to
me didn't look like what a good, clean restaurant should look like, I did
get the sandwiches to go a few times. I can't remember what I ordered for
myself but most likely it wasn't that and was the tuna. But I don't recall
anyone carrying on about the quality of the meat after I got the sandwiches.

I remember one of my brothers waxing rhapsodic about some Boar's Head
product. Allegedly prosciutto rolled up with some sort of cheese
(swiss? I don't recall exactly and can't find it on their web site). It
was to sliced and served as an appetizer, perhaps on crackers. I tasted
it. It wasn't horrid but was I supposed to be impressed by the fact it
was Boar's Head? I definitely was not impressed by the $10 price tag.

What an ignoramus!!!!!! I suppose we should stop eating toffee and crème
caramel as well as bacon, ham and all preserved meats. There's nothing
wrong either with GMOs.

Lots of makers put it out now. Your $10 roll was probably heavier
than the Primo Taglio Mozzarella & Prosciutto Roll I buy now, which is
considerably less expensive. It's meant for an appetizer tray, but I
buy it when I make pizza. Cut it into slices and I've got my meat and
cheese taken care of all in one slice.

It's supposedly the seed pesticide coating made with nicotinoids that
stay in the plant. They use that with non-GMOs too, AIUI.

The sandwich is Panini. I get the rolled up stuff. Just not that brand.

The most essential staple food crops on the planet, like corn, wheat,
rice, soybeans and sorghum, need no insect help at all; they are wind-
pollinated or self-pollinating. Other staple food crops, like bananas
and plantains, are sterile and propagated from cuttings, requiring no
pollination of any form, ever. Further, foods such as root vegetables
and salad crops will produce a useful food crop without pollination,
though they may not set seed; and hybrids do not even require insect
pollination to produce seeds for the next generation, because hybrid
production is always human-pollinated.

I certainly wouldn't want to do without the long, long list of
insect-pollinated plants that follows the paragraph that she quoted.

If we lose pollinators, we lose even the wild plants that they pollinate,
then the organisms that feed on those plants, and so on up the food chain.
Eventually it's Soylent Green for everybody.
