Recipe for Donkers

Hi, I have been looking for a recipe and have absolutely NO clue where
to find it. Perhaps someone in here can help me. The recipe I'm after is
from around the time of the American Revolution...maybe before that, but
that is where I've heard of it. Its called 'Donkers' and has meat,
bread, apple and some spices then they're fried (deepfried?) Anyone know
anything about these?
