For grins and giggles I bought a box of frozen White Castle brand
cheeseburger 'sliders'. I'll be having two of them for dinner along
with some potato chips. Don't ask me why I like them. In Memphis we
had Krystal's, which were pretty much the same thing. It's been a
couple of decades since I had either one.

I think these will make an easy occasional lunch to take to work. (The
breakroom has a full kitchen.) I'm in the process of building up a
supply of *homemade* freezer meals for lunches.

I like those too, we made home made ones two weeks ago,
rolled out the ground meat and put the five holes in
each patty, then steamed them on a bed of re-hydrated
onions. That's a unique taste for ground beef patties.

The buns are the hardest thing to duplicate.

In the future, we'll probably be eating a lot more highly processed foods - if the past is any indication. I like modern foods. I can wake up early in the morning with low blood sugar and reach over for a Choco-pie or muffin that was baked months ago and adjust my levels. How great is that?

Krystal burgers are different from White Castles, and frozen White
Castles are a pale imitation of the things you get from the restaurant.

I haven't actually been to a Krystal's since I was in my early 30's.
Sometimes on a Saturday night after going out with friends we'd meet at
Krystal's for some tiny burgers and I often got a cup of chili. We'd
eat, then call it a night. White Castle is pretty much the same except
they managed to expand to having a frozen food line.

Not in my experience. Krystal's are square small burgers with holes
poked in the meat, steamed onions, steamed buns. Very similar. The
only difference is Krystal adds a slice of dill pickle on top. I always
asked them to leave it off. I hate pickles.

Well, I've never eaten at an actual White Castle restaurant. The frozen
sliders are very much like what I recall from Kristal's "restaurants".
I'm not recommending anyone else eat or buy them. Just saying I had a
couple of them for dinner tonight. With potato chips.

Krystal's don't have the 5 small holes, White Castle's do. But yes,
Krystal's do have the dill pickle and I ask them to leave them off
as well. No cheese, either, please.

My DIL was just talking about them last week. She said they are pretty
good for a quick meal. I'll have to pick up a package. It is good to
have something like that on hand for when you don't feel like cooking,

It's probably a copycat recipe I saw for Krystal's that mentioned poking
holes in the meat using a drinking straw. Be that as it may, they are
so very similar despite Bryan's claims. Please leave off the dill
pickle. And for you, the cheese. :) I don't plan to eat these things
every day.

Today was one of those days I simply didn't feel like cooking. (I've
got a pot of mixed bean chili and a skillet of cornbread planned for
tomorrow.) Tonight, a couple of sliders and some chips... done. They
recommend microwave them from thawed, wrapped in paper towels. The
result is steamed, just as they were intended. I was surprised at how
nice they were.

You say they're "very similar," but you also say that you've never
eaten a real White Castle, only those frozen things. I have eaten
thousands of White Castle burgers. I have also had Krystals.
Krystal burgers are *inspired by* White Castles, not a copycat.

In fact, when I noticed that Murfreesboro, TN had both, I went to
both the same day to compare. The WCs won, hands down, but that
might be because I grew up on WCs. When my mother was a teenager,
she won a WC eating contest by eating 19 of them.

Also, WCs *do* have a pickle, and I order them extra pickle and
cooked onion. I also keep these around
https://www.target.com/p/gas-treatment-and-prevention-110ct-up-38-up-8482/-/A-47939611

specifically for eating WCs. Eight WCs with extra onion can fill a
gymnasium with odor. I have stories about WC farts that I'm sure
you don't want me to post, but I have found one of them in the
archives to share.

They are, according to WC, "steam grilled." John has eaten plenty of
them back when he still had a fairly functional mind.

I had a box of those last week for the first time in 8 years - the
jalapeno Cheese ones. You have to add a pickle chip and sqwert of
ketchup to them.

White Castle have pickles on them in the stores. They just don't
come on the frozen ones. The pickle gets too hot in the microwave
due to its high salt content, and they don't want to get sued for
hot pickles.

If you must buy the frozen ones, the jalapeno Cheese ones are the
way to go, but they're much better with four pickle chips.

The onions stayed white, and not even translucent white. They should have
been somewhat browned. I have eaten many thousands of White Castle
burgers. I've gone through years where I ate them 5 or more times a week.
That guy said that he "nailed" the reproduction, and I call, bullshit. Yours

I did that for years!

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GH5KQLO/

These are really nice. Last years of dishwasher use too.

I'd cook extra portions on the weekends and setup a variation schema in
the freezer so I would have different things going on all week.

Examples: (obviously shift to what you like)
- Curried Lamb shoulder week 1, fill 5 trays with excess over rice
- Pulled pork over rice week 2, fill 5 trays
- Shrimp in sauce over pasta week 3, fill 5 trays
- Home made Pizza week 4, fill 5 trays

Obviously it wasn't that cleanly done, sometimes it was 2 trays of
something else excess and 3 of something else like a stew. veggies
varied but were often frozen or canned (except canned potatoes are
nasty after freezing).

At first you might get the 'same thing' a bit but eventually it all
works out.

Here's a neat thing about those containers. Remove lid, flip water out
in sink, then slide it upside down under the hot tray and it's easy to
take to your desk. Neat to pack away and take home then rinse and put
in dishwaster. Ready for filling again.

I remember them in Florida. My next door neighbor's dad took Michelle
and me there once. He knew it was a really rare treat for me as Mom
didn't make much money at all and was struggling with all my medical
bills.

I had my first rootbeer there.

I've gotten frozen ones a few times since and like them. A rare treat
from my childhood.

That's a excellent question. In the mirror we see a good lookin' guy. In photos the image is decidedly different. The camera sees kind of a goofy looking dude. It might be that we see a reflection of our souls when looking in a mirror. Photography just captures a soulless image.
OTOH, it's probably because we see a 3D image in a mirror and a 2D image in photographs.
