They must've been hard up for contributions... compared with all the
others on that page those eggs are losers; lousy presentation
(actually non existant presentation), and blurry/smeary camera work
(invest in a tripod or stop drugging/boozing. Your dish looks like a
"Nice" emesis basin filled to the max.

Shouldn't that be WOP, WOP?

The photos posted on foodgawker are from food bloggers. It must be a
photo that has been published on your blog already. They ask for the
link to the post the photo was in.

Vomit can't be too bad if eaten while still fresh. Many creatures
regurgitate to feed their young. The gourmet canned cat foods look
more appetizing than that eggo hash... this looks and smells pretty

Among other things, you get exposure for your blog. One can click on
the picture and be taken straight to your blog, and the recipe
featured....

Also, clicking through that, and Tastespotting, can give one some

It's not easy to have a photo published on the site. What do I get out

a well known and respected site.

Here's the quote from their "about" page.
"foodgawker is a gallery where food bloggers can showcase their food
and photography skills. It's a place for you to discover new sites,
dishes, recipes and ingredients to inspire your own cooking."

The photos are clickable and will take you to the blog if you are
interested in the recipe.

I'm sorry to say that that doesn't really clarify things for me. Is it a

OK, but that doesn't benefit *koko*, it benefits the *readers*.

'Yes..it is. Why do a blog, unless you want someone to read it, even
if it is just family? If you want more exposure, then yes..it can
really draw folks in.

I have seen some marvelous things on some of these sites....some truly
spectacular food. People are creative...

It can also benefit Koko, if she is a regular on Foodgawker. Again,
it can trigger the imagination sometimes... NO, getting a picture
posted might not benefit Koko in that way, but just getting a picture
accepted by those sites, can really help with the confidence boosting
thing. It is notoriously hard to get a picture accepted, from what I
have heard.

Plus, it is just fun... ;)

There's a difference between writing a blog for family, writing a blog for
commercial reasons, and writing a blog to satisfy vanity.

If I wrote a blog for family, then I'd be letting my family know about the
blog by e-mail; there would be no benefit from having photos on
foodgawker.com, and I'd have no interest at all in reaching out to a wider
audience.

If it's a blog where the blogger is remunerated for hits on his or her site,
then the benefit is obvious, but I'm not sure how many bloggers are so
popular that they can make appreciable sums that way.

If it's just a "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!" blog, then I can see where the
blogger would be thrilled at the greater exposure, but koko doesn't strike
me as that kind of conceited twit.

> I have seen some marvelous things on some of these sites....some truly

Yes, but again, you are failing to distinguish between the benefits of
*writing* a blog and the benefits of *reading* a blog.

Hm. I suppose if someone LACKS confidence, they could derive some
psychological benefit. But what if the blogger is already well-balanced and
secure?

> Plus, it is just fun... ;)

That's the only thing which makes sense to me: It's fun to see your photos
on foodgawker.com. But if it were me I don't think I'd be excited about it
the way koko appears to be. "Satisfied" would probably be a better
description.

There are no submission requirements except to register, pretty much
submit ones email addy and create a password is all, and submit your
photo with a brief description. There is obviously an administrative
body that peruses all entries for tastefulness, pardon the pun. But
yes, there are no requirements.

From perusing quite a few entries it's obvious that most are amature
photographers but most of the presentations are quite artistic and
well thought out, Koko's is possibly the worst, there is no
presentation and no thought/effort whatsoever, just a big blob of what
appears to be a hacked up Denver omelet dumped willy nilly onto a too
small plate... that I'd be embarrassed to serve guests let alone
submit for public display... I call that awful wreck of a hacked up
failure of an egg dish critter chow... at best it's Spot's treat... I
don't have a dog and my cats wouldn't eat an eggy dish so the backyard
crows would get that abortion. Its only redeeming value is as a good
lesson of what not to do with perfectly good ingredients. To be
perfectly honest my first impression was that I thought it was a joke,
a parody on a worst Denver omelet. Even the worst greasy spoon
wouldn't dare serve that hog slop... it wouldn't even qualify for
white trash trailer trash cookery.

I don't see what all the oohing and ahhing over Koko's creations is
about... it's obviously totally disingenuous/dishonest, like how folks
fall all over themselves to praise the severely learning disabled to
their face in public but behind their backs in private they think
they're creepy... those compliments are obviously pity... otherwise
Koko must be giving a lot of rfc'ers free head.

All my cats have different food preferences but none will eat eggs...
two won't eat fish but they love poultry. I suppose if they were
hungry they'd eat even eggs but my cats have never experienced hunger,
and as long as I'm around they never will.

I just bookmarked both of 'em for future reference, Christine. I'd

I've thought about a blog......... often.

But I just don't have enough hours in the day to keep it updated.

As it is, I spend *way* too much time reading the damn things!!

Also, I know two people personally who have gotten book deals based on
their blogs, and several more who have been published in other ways as
direct results of blogging.

It's up to you how much time you put into one. It's blog crusing that
cuts into my time. ;-)

If you haven't seen "Julie and Julia" you might find it interesting.
While it has much food content and Meryl Streep portraying Julia Child,
it's really the story of a blog.
