Anyone have experience freezing Bean Pie aka Muslim Bean Pie, aka Shabazz
Bean Pie? I am planning to make bean pie over the weekend; the recipe I
have is for two pies; if it is known not to freeze well I can cut the recipe
in half; but, if it freezes well I'd like to put one away for another time.

For those unfamiliar, think pumpkin or sweet potato pie using navy beans
instead.

well, pumpkin pie freezes well, as I recall.

If you are timid, just make one pie, save and freeze one piece, and see what
happens.

my refried beans and cowboy beans freeze very well. I would certainly
try it.

Wouldn't muslim bean pies be like cow pies... muslims eat lots of

Never heard of those. Do you have a recipe? I'm interested.
Anyway, make one and freeze one raw. It works with pumpkin/sp pies.

It's interesting. Sorry, I have no recipe; have never heard of it
before. Add sugar and vanilla? So this is supposed to be a sweet bean
pie? I can't imagine it, sorry.

Note: They tell you "Mrs. Smith's brand pie crust is a good one to use." :)

Beans in a regular pie crust simply doesn't compute with me. Maybe if
it was savoury, in sort of a cornmeal crust. Like a vegetarian "tamale"
pie made with beans.

But blenderized beans, with (among other things) added sugar, cinnamon,
*nutmeg* and vanilla mixed together into a pie crust... I cannot imagine
it. Sorry.

Thank you! I've never heard of it either, but I'm not Jewish - so

Thank you for that. I did see a recipe for it that called for way less
sugar (3/4 cup). I would like to try this soon. Sounds like it taste
very similar to pumpkin pie or sweet potato pie. The ingredients are
about the same.

Imagine a sweet potato or pumpkin pie, it is similar; but, some think it is
even better. 8-)

I love pumpkin pie. I love sweet potatoes, but not sweet potato pie.
I love beans... not making them into a pie, but I wouldn't turn down a
chance to taste it sometime and decide if it would be worth the effort
or not. Wish I'd tasted sweet potato pie before I made it, because I
wouldn't have bothered if I had.

It may well be, l! Except I don't like sweet potato or pumpkin pie,
either. 8-)

I'm going to try it. It uses the same spices as pumpkin or sweet
potato pies and probably tastes about the same (my guess).

I made this recipe today and thought I'd pass along an experience. The
recipe says "makes 2 pies"; I believe it should have said "makes 2
deep-dish pies". After filling the pie shells, there was quite a bit left
over; so, I filled a third one. The third is a little less full than the
other two; had I known at the outset, I would have either used deep-dish or
would have made three regular pies with the same amount of filling in each.

My son is a fan of bean pie and is the reason I made this; I will serve it
tonight with our Sunday-night family meal. I did taste a little bit of pie
number 3 and it was very good; but, VERY sweet. Similar taste but not as
dense as most pumpkin or sweet potato pies I've had.
