The chicken Ding dish that comes from the microwave, the food you take
out that is so hot it is like trying to eat Lava.
So full of salt and fat that you can feel the heart attack coming with
every mothfull.
I prefer to cook all my own food, i know what is in it, and i know i am
not going to get thrid degree burns on the roof of my mouth when i eat
it.
What's your thoughts on this. should the processed food crap that we
buy be banned?
Would doing this help us back to a healthier life style where we ate in
season foods that were good for us?
Would this cut down on the FAT western nations we are becoming?
Natural food is best, if it's in a Packet, then Bin it.

What is "natural food?" The term seems a little ambiguous at best.
Since you apparently consider yourself a "purist," explain it.

Hate? Why would I hate them?

Well, gee, how about just not buying these things you don't like?
Is that really so hard?

Banned? No, don't see any reason to ban something that
other people buy and I don't. If your too much of a weak
minded fool to just not buy this stuff, then it's your problem.

Hmm, I like frozen vegetables. Does that count as in a "packet?"
I'd really not want to see them outlawed.

"hate" seems a pretty strong word for such an item, IMO

So what's stopping you from letting it cool down before you shove it in
your maw? Just like you'd do with any food cooked from scratch.

Actually there are some frozen meals that are pretty good. Amy's and
Weight Watchers are two brands I like.

Again, if you're too stupid that you keep shoveling scalding food in to
your mouth...well.. no one can help ya there...

No. Not purchased routinely perhaps, but I don't need a Nanny-State
governing my food choices.

Probably not. One has to be motivated not just left with no options.

a lot of perfectly good food is fattening. Over-eating and under
exercising are the culprits for many.

Salt and fat (the two items you mentioned above) are perfectly natural.

Possibly, commercial ready meals are high in salt and fat but I quite
often vacuum seal and freeze meals I've made myself, Nuked they can be
pretty good.

Natural foods should be banned. They have dirt on them.
Nobody ever got E. coli H0157 from processed food.
Dirt? What do you think they grow in? Just wash off root vegetables and
tubers before you cook them. Rinse off fruit from the trees and berries
from bushes.

I don't hate such things. Sometimes I just try to ignore them. Give it
a try.

Let it cool before eating. Oh, I forgot, you were in too big a hurry to
cook.

You only make cold food?
> What's your thoughts on this. should the processed food crap that we

No. Why don't you just stop buying it? They won't make it if people
don't buy it.
> Would doing this help us back to a healthier life style where we ate in

No. People could still make choices that didn't fit your concept of
"healthy".
> Would this cut down on the FAT western nations we are becoming?
Depends.
To change the subject a bit, why are you preaching to the choir? Folks
here are interested in cooking, not buying junk at the store and heating
it in the microwave. We would much rather you posted about good food
that you like, instead of reading a "lecture" about stuff we normally
don't eat anyway.

You didn't read the label when you bought the chicken? IIRC, any liquid
added to a meat/poultry product has to be disclosed on the label.
Shop smart, then you won't feel cheated.

The last big flap was over raw spinach:

People in the US (maybe North America) were advised not to eat *any*
fresh spinach during this outbreak.
Do you have any cites?

Sometimes opinions are interesting. When we are talking about food
borne illnesses and nutrition, I'd rather deal in facts.
> Sometime i feel cheated when you find out they have injected chicken

Do you have some facts to back that up? I don't believe chicken looks
bigger when injected with brine. Chicken is sold by weight. Brine is
heavy and extremely cheap. The chicken folks would love to sell you
water at chicken prices.

Some people complain about foodbanter, some people complain about gmail.
I'd prefer to judge each poster on their own merit. If the foodbanter
folks, as a whole, appear to be a little naive, I view that as a
teaching opportunity.
We used to have a mushroom farm outside of town. They used to
*sterilize* their shit. That's about the most important part of
mushroom farming, the compost. They prefer using horse manure. I read
a book about it once. The pinnacle of achievement is finding horse
manure from a girl's riding academy.
"Becoming"? Are you serious? Have you taken a look around in the
past 30 years? All I see is fat fuckers everywhere. And now they are
advertising gastric bypass surgery on TV as if it's the most natural
thing to do. People ought to be ashamed of themselves. I don't blame
the fatty processed ready-made foods per se, but it's down to supply
and demand. People are fat and lazy and demand fast ready foods that
are not made of wholesome ingredients. So that's what you see in such
abundance when you go to the supermarket. Gluttony and sloth are the
downfall here.
Agreed!
I remember at least 30 years ago seeing a TV show
in which a self-styled health "expert" was extolling
the virtues of refined clays. He showed a display stand
that had dozens of different types.

I've raised mushrooms before, and the cultures are
terribly sensitive to contamination by competing
fungi that do not produce mushrooms. The way to do
it is sterilize the medium, then give it a massive
inoculation of young fungus. You start by plating
spores in Petri dishes, cut out the bits that are
not contamination and grow them on sterilized grain
in jars, the good jars that aren't contaminated are
then used to inoculate sterilized manure or straw.
Don't know what's special about a girl's riding
academy, though. Most large mushroom operations
are located near racetracks, horse breeding
operations, and dairy operations.
>i must insist that you're giving short shrift to greed, pride and lust.
Did you see that the congressman who kept $90,000 in the freezer got
13 years in prison? He said he was keeping it as evidence. HA! It

If it were my freezer, they wouldn't have found it.

Ready meals suck. It's not only the fat and salt, they just don't
taste like the real thing. No they should not be banned. People
can't make smart choices? More government intervention? Relying on
the government to do our thinking for us? Don't complain when your

When you ban a substance you create a demand for that substance.
There are already underground restaurants in New York City that
feature banned hydrogenated fats in the form of margarine, deep fat
fried foods etc. It's expensive to eat in these places, as the
margarine cops need to be bought off etc. Organized crime has moved
in and also takes their cut, smuggling shortening into NYC
restaurants. Early last month there was a gun battle in SoHo between
the Chinese triads and the Italian mob. Two innocent bystanders were
shot in the toe. All because of the ban on hydrogenated vegetable
oils! And you want to ban processed foods!?
> AND as for idiot - How do you know i am not a PHD, or whatever?

Maybe they really meant PHD... as in Piled Higher and Deeper. <vbg>

Lots of foods are a tad scary. Following your logic, we should ban
all foods that are harmful. Let's start with bacon, ham, sausages;
smoked/fresh, or at least ban the excess sodium in these sausages,
processed cheese whiz?! give me back my cheeze whiz!, smoked/
barbecued/grilled foods, velveeta? give me back my velveeta!, red
meats, fish, ducks and geese, KFC, and so on...It never stops. You
ban hydrogenated oils, then next up = whatever the food cops decide.
All in the name of what's good for us, when in reality it's all about
controlling the citizens more and more and more. People know that
excess hydrogenated foods are bad, bacon(in excess) can be bad and so
on. If they can't figure out to eat healthy, then that's their
business.

With the ignoranus superfluous comma and extraneous "it".
