I think that Frank's is where it's at. I purchase the regular, and sometimes X-Tra hot. Nothing better than a fried hot Italian sausage topped with X-tra hot sauce. The worst hot sauce in the world is 'tabasco'. Yuch. Can't stand it.

Yes. Tobasco is hot but I don't care much for the taste.

Franks is good but I haven't seen the X-tra hot version. I would
probably like that more as the regular is fairly mild.

Great for buffalo chicken though.

Its the bomb on seafood. You try Tobasco on fish or shrimp? Forget about it.

I use Matouck's Trinidadian hot sauce for my scrambled eggs and bacon.
It is not rip roaring hot but it has a flavour that goes great in that
dish.

No way. I say Tabasco is first. Sriracha is second.

It's probably too hot for you. Franks is *very* mild. I haven't
tried the x-tra hot, but wonder if it's really more a medium hot at
best.

I do like to use franks sometimes as well as cholula, which is also
fairly mild, but more expensive. It's worth it for fried eggs though.

I kind of think there's 3 types. There's Cholula, which I like, Sriracha,
which I detest, and everything else, Frank's, Tabasco, Texas Pete,
Louisiana, whatever, that seem pretty similar. Oh yeah, there's that
Valentina stuff that I have little use for. I only buy Cholula, and I buy
it in big bottles, so it's not that expensive. The only thing I really use
it on is leftover fried chicken, or to make buffalo wings, but when
my son lived here he put it on pizza. A 64oz. bottle is $18 on
Amazon.

Tabasco is very aromatic. Not like the others.

Daves insanity was the hottest i purchased. Ghost was the hottest i made.
Tabbasco is only neat in the tiny bottles. 2ml?
Franks makes multiple versions and after hundreds is my normal go to.
I had a collection. Wife suggested I toss them when we had young kids.
Let me look right now...off hand
3 diff franks, Smack yo momma,
...smack is gone. They are all gone. I have franks and a kit to make my own.
ALL the ones to talk about gone. Grrr.

not a fan of tabasco as it is vinegar more than anything.

also do not like anything with habanero peppers. it tastes too
much like rotting fruit to me.

i may have to find another hot sauce as Sriracha is starting to
be too wimpy. in order to get some heat back into it i have to
not have any for a while. that's no fun.

I got Franks, Tabasco, and Sriracha. When I want some on eggs, I grab whichever one is nearby. My favorite spicy condiment at the moment is S&B Crunchy Garlic with Chili Oil. Asian people put it on rice and so do we. I don't use it for cooking - just as a rice topping. The Koreans would call it a "rice thief" because it makes rice disappear. Ha ha, that's cute.

Tabasco is OK in some things. I don't like it by it's self on eggs or
whatever, but it's nice to use to kick up chili or something with a few
splashes; adds a flavor element to some dishes as well. Franks is good,
I also keep a jar of that in my fridge.

the regular is fairly mild, but nicely flavoured. That's why sometimes I get the Xtra hot version. More bang for the buck, but it lacks the regular Frank's in flavour. Nice hot stuff though.

And so are 'A1', 'HP', and 'Heinz-57'. That makes them on anyone's bucket
list, just in case they particularly appeal to one's personal taste. So I
tried Cholula on your recommendation but found something that sets the
taste a bit 'off'.

The Cholula site shows six varieties plus two wing-specific formulations.
Usually conspicuous differentiation in an established product is a sure
sign of desperation fueled by an alarming drop in market share.
Supermarkets don't have room for an indeterminate variety of the same
basic product, so it will probably be eventually whittled down to one
'wing' Cholula and maybe two 'basic' hot sauces.

Before the spurious ones are dropped, do you have any recommendations?

(Between Chipotle, Green Pepper, Chili Lime, Sweet Habanero.)

OK, you've convinced me to try a small bottle next time I swing by the
store. Certainly not a half gallon, but I'll get one as depicted on the
half gallon label with the wood cap. Maybe ~$2 IIRC for the bottle that
I saw at Family Dollar; price was rather reasonable.

My instinct is usually to be cheap with condiments, except for ketchup;
I only buy Heinz. I'm out of Worcestershire sauce finally... the store
brand wasn't very good. Is Lea/Perkins in the paper wrapper worth it?

I've never tried any but the original, and might not ever. We just got
back from shopping, where we went to a Mexican restaurant/store,
where we bought salsa verde that tastes like it was made with
cactus. It's going to be the sauce for chilaquiles.

I used to feel that way. But I did do a taste test with French's when
they broke into the ketchup market here in Canada. I feel it is better,
and I had been a loyal 'Heinz' fan for half a century.

I'm not sure if you can get French's ketchup where you are, but you
should give it a try. And don't wait for your Heinz bottle to run out;
perform a side by side taste test with something completely un-spiced,
like fries.

And please follow-up here with the result.

I switched to French's when Heinz pulled out of Ontario. It's not like
the bottle I buy once every year or two was going to affect their bottom
jline but I guess it helped to have an impact. Heinz is returning to
Ontario. The CEO acknowledged that moving their operations out of Canada
had a big impact on their Canadian sales, There was a significant
boycott of their product and it opened the door for their rival to grab
that market share.

Currently, I have Lee&Perrins in the paper wrapper.
It's certainly "the best" but I've also had store brands that are
equally good. That just depends on the certain store brand.

Note: If you like steak sauce, Lee&Perrins also makes that very well.
Even better than A-1, imo.

I would simply make cilantro chutney:
<https://www.vegrecipesofindia.com/coriander-chutney/#wprm-recipe-container-138999>

Excellent on pappadum. As is onion chutney:

<https://delishably.com/special-diets/Onion-Relish-Recipe-Best-Indian-Onion-Relish-Vegan>

I often make onion chutney with white vinegar instead of lemon juice,
because that matches the flavor profile of the onion chutney at an Indian
restaurant I used to frequent.

Growing up, Dad wanted everything over cooked. We all ate what dad
wanted. Steaks were always very thin and cooked well done to dry shoe
leather.

I would cut mine up into bite sized pieces and slather them with A-1
sauce. IOW, my steaks always tasted like A-1 sauce.

Not until I moved out did I have a decent thicker steak cooked to
med-rare. No more A-1 sauce necessary.

I do like mushrooms and onions with a good steak but mom never did that
either.

A-1 is nice for dipping fries instead of ketchup.

My father was like that too. After 4th grade, we sold the house,
and my father moved to Texas (where alimony is unconstitutional),
and my mother, brother and I moved to Crestwood. By the time I
was in 8th grade, I would spend money on raw round steaks, and
eat them totally raw. Little packages were 60-80 cents back in the
mid-1970s, about $4 in today's $$.

Since we're talking about a hotel in your price range, that's probably
correct.

I'll consider it, but it's unlikely that I will. I don't want to buy a
bottle and waste it. The again, maybe I will, and save the off brand
bottle for when a recipe like BBQ'd chipped ham calls for a couple of
cups of ketchup.

Heinz originated in Pittsburgh, and we are rather loyal to them here.
They still have a factory in Pittsburgh, not to mention that their
global headquarters is here. I've tried many off and store brand
ketchup, and I'm never pleased.

Heinz Worcestershire is the worst product they make. And French's
is just as bad.

If you'd like to maintain your Cheap-Ass Scruples and see the
difference without paying L&P prices, get Walmart's Great Value
Worcestershire. It's made by L&P just dumbed down a little bit. It
tastes 88% as good at less than 1/3rd the cost as L&P at only $1
bottle.

I think I'll go down and take a few sqwigs now come to think of
it...

High Fructose Corn Syrup = Diabetes Syrup.

Natural Flavors = Bat guano, very natural. Gives those earthy
undertones.

That's actually the bottle that I just ran out of, Walmart brand. I
don't know when I bought it, but the expiry date was July 2018, so that
may have had something to do with the flavor. You can see how
frequently I use Worcestershire sauce. At that rate, cost doesn't
really matter, so I might pick up the fancy paper bag bottle next time.
Also, I haven't shopped at Walmart in a couple of years.

This is getting old in a hurry. Bruce needs to pick persona and stick
