I have a refrigerator draw full of various ground chilies to use in
chili, but I still like Grandma's brand chili powder. Unfortunately,
it has been discontinued *again* and I'm afraid it's going to stay
dead this time. The manufacturer makes Williams Country Store
Original Chili Seasoning. Has anyone used both Grandma's and
Williams? Are they similar enough that I won't be disappointed? The
last time Grandma's was discontinued, I tried just about everything
else on the shelf and never found another one that I liked even as
much as I liked Grandma's let alone like it better. I will look for
Williams, but I'm not holding out much hope about liking it as well
although the ingredient lists read virtually the same (Chile peppers
and other spices, garlic).

The only use I have for prepared packaged seasonings is Williams Chili
seasoning, and that is for barbecue beans, not chili.

do you have a container of Grandma's.....does it have an ingredient
list on it? You should experiment and make your own.

Yep.

There's only about a jillion recipes for chili spice mix.
It's why there are hundreds, if not thousands, of chili cook-offs per
year. Grandma is not gonna give you theirs and there are no doubt
dozens better. Do like everyone else. Git off yer ass and come up
with one of yer own. Google for chili spice mix for tips. DUH!

GOOD START:

chile pwdr
cumino pwdr
oregano pwdr
salt and pepper
...after that, yer on yer own.

I do and I gave the ingredients list above. One blogger that claims
to have replicated it pretty well says she used ground NM chiles.
