Irresponsible DRIVER kept going West on Delmar through a red light! While me and a big truck were turning left at the light! Bastard in a white car (by my eye witness and the white color of the pieces of their front end plastic which broke off!) hit me hard and fast and kept going!

And my Geico Uninsured motorist insurance only covers bodily damage and medical bills, but NOT car repair! That would be Collision insurance! :-(

So good thing I still have my big beautiful Dodge Grand Caravan 2006 with the best sound system ever!

That sucks. Problem with collision insurance on older cars, the premium
is often more than the value of the car after deductible.

Depends on a lot of things . I carry full coverage on all of our
motor vehicles , including u/m and ui/m and towing . But then we're old
and so are the vehicles , and we both have clean driving records .
Coverage for the vehicles , camper , etc is just over 200 bucks a month .

It's annoying that when you get a new car your insurance premium usually
increases because, they tell you, it is more expensive to repair/replace
new cars. Your premiums remain at that rate even though your car's
value is rapidly depreciating. Then if you have a minor accident they
want to write it off saying it will cost more to repair than it's orth.

They pulled that on me a few years ago when my wife had an accident in
our 15 year old Buick. There was a scrape on the driver side door and
front left fender and a crack in the bumper. It was nothing, but they
wanted to write it off, saying the car was only worth $2000. They
offered to me $2500 and I could keep the car. I got ir repaired for
$2000 and got three more years out of it

Your giant nifty sound system is made to play at high volume.
You drive around with that system blasting and you're gonna

No insurance company I've ever heard of would offer
you $2500 and let you keep the car when they determined
it was only worth $2000.

Either bullshit or maybe a Canadian insurance thing.

A few years ago my wife flipped our Mazda SUV (same as Ford Escape) on
it's side and into the ditch on an iced road . There was significant
front suspension damage so we elected to let it go and take the payout .
We got full retail value but I don't recall which segment of our
coverage it was listed under . We've had coverage thru State Farm for 50
years except for a short time right after we moved to Tennessee , and
they've always treated me right . A couple of times they have paid me
under uninsured coverage then gone after the other (at fault) driver
and/or his/her insurance company . Allstate on the other hand screwed
me when one of their insured hit me from behind and totaled my Harley -
and nearly totaled me . Dragged it out for years then blamed my problems
on other things that happened during that time . Good Hands my dyin' ass .

There are probably lots of things that you have never heard of so it
might be a good idea for you to do a little research before you start
calling them liars.

Here is one of many sites I found with a few key strokes using the keys
"insurance write off".

https://dulibaninsurance.com/blog/my-vehicle-is-a-write-off-but-i-want-to-keep-it/

"Usually, your insurer will offer a settlement depending on your car’s
actual cash value. Reimbursement is generally less if you decide to keep
the write-off, and higher if you allow the insurance company to keep the
salvaged vehicle. Below are factors that influence the actual cash value
of your car."

There are different types of write-offs. Generally, it is when they
figure the cost of repair is greater than the value of the vehicle. It
could be that the vehicle is irreparable and can only be used for parts.
Ontario is one jurisdiction that has vehicle branding. That involves
specific types of damage or theft.

They did the same to a friend of mine. This is going back close to 50
years. We were driving along and were stuck behind a very slow driver.
It was cleat to pass so he pulled out to go around her, but she suddenly
pulled a left turn. Allstate did not cover my friend because they said
he was at fault. A couple years later I was working with the woman who
had been driving the other car. She said Allstate didn't pay her either
saying she was at fault.

My son and his girlfriend got hit in her Leaf while waiting at a stop. My son got out into a rainstorm to check the damage and get the driver's info. The guy pointed to a place on the side of the road that they could talk. When my son got back in her Leaf, the guy took off in the other direction. Ha ha, that was kind of funny.

Good point. My son says she's the worst driver he ever saw. She comes from a family of the reddest rednecks yoose ever seen and she's a psychotherapist. Her last car was completely covered is small dents. She probably would have just given us the car but I'd be too ashamed to drive that junker.

She's got a bunch of traffic/parking tickets that she ignores and is completely uninterested in registering the car or getting safety checks. The times she's been stopped for the safety check, they just let her go. She must be using some kind of redneck psychotherapist mind tricks on the cops.

Near as I can tell, her kinfolk are mountain people that live in the deepest darkest Appalachians. It sounds scary. They run the place and are the mayor, town counsel, judgeship, and police, of the hamlet. She could probably get away with ignoring the law because her family is the law. My guess is that they'd hang my yellow ass the first time they caught sight of it entering the town limits.

Yeah, I first drove Baby II to take pics of my dead Leaf and then to the gasoline station and filled her up! :-(

I mean I need to driver Baby II anyway, cause AAA found a dead cell in my 12V battery so I said "New Battery please!"

"Baby" was also killed Halloween 2017. Hit from behind by a speeding car! I came to a complete stop then looked up at my reat view and there was a pair of headlights that came way too fast and...BAM! Drove my stopped 1996 regular Caravan into the car ahead of me and deployed my airbags and destroyed the vehicle. Hence I bought "Baby II" a 2006 Grand Caravan! Which I am driving now while my Leaf gets repaired, function over form. I want my 100% electric car back!

You're not being clear. Do you have liability auto insurance or
are you
paying an annual fee because you don't have any insurance?

You said your "uninsured motorist insurance."
That would be a small rider to your liability policy and
very inexpensive. That would help pay for your car repair if
someone else hits you and either runs off (like what
happened to you) or if they did stop but didn't have any
insurance to cover your damage.

Well DUH!

No, they won't. Liability insurance (required) provides coverage for
when you're at fault in an accident. Uninsured Motorist provides
coverage for property damage if you're hit by an uninsured driver, not
"hit & run" drivers.

Collision insurance covers exactly what it says: damage due to a
collision. It often includes a provision for car rental while yours is
in the shop. It isn't smart to not have full coverage.

My car was hit in a Walgreens parking lot some years ago. No one fessed
up to hitting it. There was a little old lady who came toddling back
towards me from the store entrance when I saw the damage and let out an
unladylike yell. (She exclaimed "It wasn't ME!" Yeah, right.) The
drivers side door and rear quarter panel were smashed. Collision
insurance covered the body work, paint job and provided me with a rental
car while the work was being done. And since it was an *unwitnessed*
accident, my insurance company (USAA) cut my deductible in half. All I
had to do was d/l an unwittnessed accident report form from the county
Sheriff's web site, fill it out, scan it and email it to the insurance
company.

Most people don't bother to read insurance policies because of all the
gobbledygook; I get that. Here's a hint: the DEC (declaration) pages
included in your policy spell out briefly but succinctly what is covered.

That doesn't make sense. If the other driver was uninsured, they
couldn't "go after" that uninsured drivers' insurance company (a process
called Subrogation) to recover their loss.

Yeah the thing about alpine is that they come in these nice pretty
oversized cases and the boards on then are quite small. They are
rather high is distortion and lower on power. They were good back in
the early 90's when there was just not much else to buy.

Yep. Maybe they are still using windows XP, so Kuth can get things
charted.

I use WinXP on my Toughbook laptop hooked up to my basement mammoth sound system so I can play Youtubes for DAYS! :-)

Because Youtube thinks WinXP went away, but it never did!

XP did go away for a hell of a lot of things. Many programs won't
run on it. I have an old computer with win XP. It was a damn good
machine in it's day, but will hardly run anything these days. It
has a *double* whammy though .... Outdated XP, but also an AMD
athlon processor that won't execute some opcodes. It served me well
for almost 20 years, though I'm not a brilliant computer engineer
like you.

We had some guy on a moped do a left turn from the middle lane. Unfortunately, my car was occupying that spot and he hit the side of my car. I called my insurance company and they told me the guy said we hit him. I assume that they realized that was bogus because they asked me if they should pay his claim of 100 bucks or so. I said "hell no!"

He put a small dent on the side of my bumper but I didn't pursue it because I didn't care and besides, it made a pretty good conversation piece.

Maybe he saved enough in premiums to cover the expense?

Denon was my choice in the 90's.  I couldn't afford Nakamichi back
then.  It looks like they have all devolved into crap.  Good thing the
stock systems are so much better now and, most, aren't designed for
aftermarket head units anyway.

There's no point in having a good system for YouTube music.

Why not?  Insurance isn't just for covering the driver's damages. They
are also there to help you recover damages caused by someone else.

Every bloody thing is now made there! A few years ago, I auditioned a
pair of speakers with a well-known British name. When I read the
brochure, they may have been designed in the UK but they were made in
the PRC.

My bad! Doesn't always work going after the driver, though. My nephew,
who was about 21 at the time and still living with his dad, was riding
his bicycle on a suburban sidewalk when he got hit by a drunk who was
driving a beat up old pickup truck. (The truck jumped the curb and
wound up in someone's front yard.) The guy had no drivers license, much
less insurance. The guy didn't have a pot to piss in. He went to jail
but my brother had to fork out the money to pay for nephew's extensive
medical bills. :(

I also have a AudioTechica Pro turntable and a Sony 200 CD changer into the McIntosh preamp, so I have several quality audio sources! And since my Toughbook laptop downstairs is running WinXP, Youtubes can play ad infinitum as Youtube thinks WinXP went away! But it didn't!

I've seen that throughout most of Europe, especially in Rome and
Naples. 15 year old boys in Italy were selling their sisters and
mammas.

YouTube will play on any operating system.  What does Windows XP have to
do with it?
