Dead pig left, right and centre. I believe there's even dead pig in

We went to a new restaurant that opened up yesterday. My granddaughter had the dead pig. My son had a huge rib and I had some brisket. This town sure needed a BBQ restaurant. I feel like we've hit the big time. Hopefully, this doesn't mean this place will become a tourist town. Who the heck needs that?

Did you microwave that bacon on one of those wavy trays?

Always cut cherty tomatoes in half across the axis before tossing
into a salad that you'll eat within 2 hours. And ideally, at
least 15 minutes before you eat it. Whole cherry tomatoes in
tossed salads are TIAD and only done at salad bars and for
pre-packaged salads. You can do better.

We live on the island of Oahu, which is the most populated island in Hawaii. The other islands are like ghost towns compared to Oahu. You live on the other islands if you like life at a slower pace.
I enjoy burning my food but these guys take it to a whole different level.
I estimate that there's more than 3.7% vegetarians in Hawaii. My wife, daughter, and granddaughter, at times have been semi-vegetarian. My nephew and his wife are hard-core vegans. They're moving back to California so they don't count.

The meat doesn't look burnt to me; it just looks like the spices used in the
rub have darkened due to the long and slow smoking. That's the way a
pork shoulder looks when I smoke one.

I asked my artificially intelligent friend again and this time he or
she or neither came up with higher numbers. Percentage of vegans and
vegetarians combined:
Hawaii: 20.23%
California: 18.51%
Virginia: 17.91%
Texas: 6.49%

I think that the younger and more educated people are, the higher the
chance that they don't eat meat. It's slowly becoming a lower
socio-economic thing, like smoking.

It's the combination of the spices, smoke, and long and sloooooow
cooking that gives it that slightly charred look. Trust me, it has no
burnt taste.

Most barbecue rubs start off with paprika, chili powder, and a bit of
brown sugar. Those three will definitely give whatever you're smoking
a deep, almost burnt look. Whatever other spices you add to your rub
will depend on what flavors you like. They will add a bit of color as
well.

You've probably seen car or house fires with a layer of smoke damage
covering everything. You'll get that layer of smoke on the meat as well
and depending on what type of wood you use. It will impart a wonderful
flavor and not of burned upholstery or drywall.

For first time smokers it is a bit of a shock when the lid is taken off/flipped
back. First look and you silently say to yourself "Uh-oh." But that first taste
when it's sliced, chopped, or shredded, you can injure yourself trying to pat
yourself on the back.    😋

Indeed, it is burnt. That's purely intentional. I like to burn my food too. That's purely intentional. This is mostly achieved by the use of sugar. You probably won't be able to burn your food like that without sugar. If you know what you're doing, it's not going to taste burnt. I suppose it might look a little unpleasant.

I'll ask my artificially intelligent friend, although the numbers
(s)he comes up with vary a lot.

"According to a 2018 survey by the Vegetarian Resource Group, about
5.5% of adults in Hawaii are vegetarian or vegan. This means that
about 1 in 20 adults in Hawaii does not eat meat. The percentage of
vegetarians and vegans in Hawaii is higher than the national average
of 3.5%."

But if I ask my friend how many Americans are vegetarians or vegans, I
get this:
"According to the 2022 Vegetarian Times survey, 10.1% of Americans are
vegetarian and 2.9% are vegan. This means that about 1 in 10 Americans
does not eat meat."

My friend sometimes tells me that (s)he's still learning.

In Australia, as far as I know, BBQ is for meats that cook in max 15
minutes or so. I'm sure there will be Australians who smoke meats for
hours, but I don't think it's very common. It's about meat, beer and
sun, not about a lot of preparation.

I don't want to participate in an BBQ competitions but I'll happily sample

One of the guys at work, and his brother, would make smokers out of new

The word barbecue/barbecuing encompasses both methods. Therefore
my question to Bruce about steaks/burgers or something cooked low and
slow for many, many hours??

It also denotes a gathering. George Washington: "I went to a barbecue, danced,

Around here we have charcoal and gas grills that we call BBQ. If it is
cooked on one of those critters, either grilled, roasted or rotisseries,
it is called BBQing. It can be meat, fish ore vegetables. Basically, it
you cook it outside it is BBQed,

Were I smoking dope, and I'm not, that hunk of meat would look like a
dead sperm whale, incinerated in a undersea volcano. The mouth's a little

Rather than count vegetarians they should count separate meals.

I'm not a vegetarian yet about 80% of my meals would qualify.

I don't know why anyone is bothering to gather percentages other than to
attempt to pidgeonhole people into specific categories so they can
disagree with them and push an agenda.

I don't know about you but I like eating food that tastes good. If it
involves meat, I'm fine with it. If it doesn't, I'm also fine with it.
I draw the line at weirdo vegans who think it's cruel to milk a cow.
Pescetarians are caught somewhere in the middle between being vegetarian
and liking fish and can't seem to decide whether a fish is animal,
vegetable or mineral. LOL

These surveys are skewed not only based on the questions but on the
demographics of the group/organization writing the survey questions. I
take online surveys for fun. Many times, before I can even get a few
questions in (not even sure what the actual subject is yet), I'm
screened out based on my age and other demographic information. "Thank
you for participating. Our client has already reached the quota of
respondents in your demographic group." IOW, they are looking for the
younger, seemingly more hip people to answer the questions which point
more towards the answers they WANT, not actual, factual data. And if
those younger hip people don't answer the way they want, they get
screened out, too.

Tonight I'm having broccoli, rice & cheddar cheese casserole for dinner.
No meat involved. I don't always eat meat. I will not apologize for
loving a good steak from time to time.

Rather than be snarky and argumentative about it, we could also try to

A carnivore lives on sentient life.
A herbivore lives on non-sentient life.
A omnivore lives on both.

Accidental ingestion of bugs by herbivores and plants by carnivores
while eating doesn't reclassify them.

I expect that a "new study" will soon imply that plants are sentient.
Hair will catch on fire. Movements will start. Nothing will come of it.

Many big cars then had base models - Newport, LeSabre, Monterrey, Catalina, Polara, 88 - with a three - on - the - tree as standard. This was to ostensibly offer a more "competitive" price...

Chrysler for example used the ad phrase "For just a few dollars more than the 'Low - Priced Three', move UP to Chrysler!" to sell Newports...

True, it got you a standard 383, but the Torqueflite was optional...

Same with a Catalina - a standard 389, but automatic optional...

A New Yorker, 98, Electra 225, Park Lane, or Bonneville would have automatics as standard equipment...

In '69, even a Caprice came standard IIRC with a standard transmission, automatic was optional... as on a stripper Biscayne... same with full - size Fords and Plymouths...

I grew up around miserly farmers, I remember some mid - late 60's big cars in the showrooms that had standard shift trannies... these were strippers, which the Depression - raised rural folk still bought...

Report back on the Impala...!!!
