I use to see it all the time, but haven't recently.. I'll keep my eyes
open. I think it was in the "unusual" section...you know.. the odd
imported/jewish/ethnic section that small southern chains toss
everything they aren't familiar with?

Weetabix has been around for years in Canada if it's the same thing. I just
assumed if it's available here it would be in the U.S also. If it's not
Canadian does anyone know where it originated for trivia sake?

They sell Wheetabix at Trader Joes, as well as my local market. If the person
who was looking for it needs some, and they'd be willing to send me a money
order to cover the cost of the cereal and postage, what the heck...I'll send
them some!

(Normally, I'd say forget the money, and send it out of the goodness of my
heart, but I'm not working right now.... )

If ya gotta have Wheetabix..hey, I'll be happy to help.
Maybe we can make a trade...some Post Toasties for some Wheetabix?

Why Post Toasties, you may ask? They're just corn flakes, after all. Well,
I'll tell you. I went to college on the property of what was once the estate
of a certain C.W. Post--the founder of the Post cereal company and father of
socialite Marjorie Merriwether Post. Those of us who went there were
affectionately known as "Post Toasties". It's just a silly thing. College
graduation was nearly 15 years ago, but when I see a box of Post Toasties, I
have to smile. General Foods doesn't distribute them on the east coast. And
I've only seen them at SuperWalMarts in Texas. They discontinued the namesake
"CW Post" cereal. It was a granola. With or without raisins. Really good. I had
an empty box until about 5 years ago--yes, I saved it all those years. The
college had an olympics style tournament, with members of each dorm competing
against the others. There were about 10 events, ranging from pajama relays
(same as a relay, only you had to wear your jammies), team volleyball, to "mind
games" like password and jeopardy. Guess what the tournament was called?

Uh Huh!!! THE CEREAL BOWL!!!!!!

(That was my ob:food)

Sigh....How I loved my college days!

Anyway, if the original poster can subsidize it, I can send you Wheetabix. Just
give me yell!

I think it originated in England.

Canajun-made Weetabix has been in evidence in Seattle-area stores for
quite some time, but it's packaged (last time I looked) in dinky (and
over-priced) 12-biscuit boxes instead of the 24-biscuit boxes we get
in Canada. In fact, once in a long while I can get the stuff in
48-biscuit boxes!

I *adore* Weetabix and must eat a box of the stuff every week as
breakfast cereal. My recycling bin is full of flattened Weetabix
boxes. Can we all say "addiction"?

It's one of the good things about living in Canada -- but I must admit
that the original English-made Weetabix had a richer, maltier flavor
than the Canajun stuff, and I wish I could still get it.

Since you live in Kalamazoo, why not just drive to Ontario, and stock
up? I'm sure some grocer there would be happy to sell you a case of
the stuff!

If pressed, check the phone book for the British (or Scottish or Irish)
shops. They usually have clothes, music, books, and very often certain
characteristic foods, like HP Sauce and Weetabix. Prices are sure to be
high, though.

Weetabix originated in the United Kingdom, hence its ready availability in
Canada.

It has an unusual gooeyness when mixed with milk, and the slight malty
flavour is pleasant. I didn't try it until I was in my 20s and, raised on
American cereals (also rife in Canada), I didn't care for its flavour or
texture. It does grow on one though, and now I like it.

When you eat Weetabix you have the distinct impression that you are doing
something disgustingly healthy. :-)

I can't imagine why you'd want it (cardboard with a crunch! LOL) but I
have seen it at Jubilee foods and Cub foods, if you have those in your
area. It says it's made in Canada on the box.

Yup...there are many places online that sell British goods as well,
again for a price, though.

If you cannot find the Weetabix there, and you are willing to pay the
postage, I will be more than happy to pick up some for you here in Florida,
in fact the British store I shop at will do mail order. While the prices are
higher than in England, the prices at this store are reasonable (which is
why I drive over an hour to shop there, although there is a British store
close to me)

E-mail me at cooki...@havenet.com and I will be happy to send you the
price of the Weetabix and the store information. I know I have their list in
the kitchen somewhere, just have to put my hands on it!

Metra,
You must be thinking of something else. Weetabix cannot be used as a
teething cookie - it crumbles too easily.
Farley's Rusks are used as a teething cookie.

BTW the Weetabix you get in the stores that is from Canada is not exactly
the same Weetabix as you get in England. I am lucky that there are a couple
of British stores close to me.

Goomba, have you tried to find it on Amazon?

Speaking of placing unfamiliar items: my large Midwest chain of supermarkets' local store
placed cans of "borscht," among the juices. I informed an employee that it was a kind of soup,
but the next time I was there, it was still with the juices. (Ididn't intend to buy any, but just
noticed it when I was looking for apple juice.)
