My store-bought packages of tortillas are sticking together. Most of them
would not separate without tearing and peeling. This brand used to be ok.
I'm careful to get them in their own bag at the checkout and not press on
them otherwise. Didn't help.

Will try another brand next pruchase but it is VERY anoying.

Anyone have and suggestions - beside making my own as I need them?

They get that way in packing and storing. The ones on the bottom
get pressed together and if they are very fresh then they are
hard to separate.

I try to select a package that feels loose and floppy. You can
tell as soon as you pick them up, if it feels real solid and
doesn't bend, it's probably a package from the bottom of the
packing box, or got put under pressure at some point after
packaging. Select carefully, that's the only way to prevent it
IMO.

To be clear I'm talking about flour tortillas.

Yes, flour. Sorry, forgot to mention that.

I was unaware of the different package 'feel' as you describe. Thanks
much for the useful tip!

The package should roll, be floppy or bend softly. This indicates
freshness. I'll go through as many packages and as many brands as
necessary until I find a nice soft package of flour tortillas.
Actually, I do the same for corn tortillas. It's no different than
looking for a softer, fresher loaf of bread. When stocking, employees
will move the older stock to the top. Don't be afraid to check out
the packages.

Try writing to the company. That's what I did. I buy the Surito and they
are made locally. First problem I had was with the seal at the bottom of
the bag. It was no good. I would pick up the bag and the tortillas would
fall to the floor. I wrote to them and they fixed the problem.

Then a few weeks ago, I bought two bags on separate occasions and all of a
sudden, the tortillas were sticking. They offered to refund my money but I
declined. I had eaten them anyway. I don't know what the problem was but
they fixed it. I suspect that they may have been being bagged while still
warm.

Maybe to some extent but IMO it's mainly a handling issue,
especially where freshness is equal. I've seen perfectly fresh
tortillas that are already packed down and stiff. If a lot of
weight is put on them, especially when warm, they get
compressed. I think the main difference is whether the tortillas
came from the bottom or the top of the case they were packed in.
But we agree on how to select them, regardless.

I have, on at least three prior occasions, written posts that delve into
the “alleged” lurid past of one of our former presidents, George Herbert
Walker Bush (GHWB), the current but ailing patriarch of the Bush Family
Dynasty – I refer to them as the Bush Family Crime Syndicate, certainly
not in terms of endearment – but rather more like the Mafia Godfather
who prepares his sons to take over the family business upon his death.
This particular post references an article by Stew Webb, a contributor
of Veterans Today.

In his life-time, George H. W. Bush (GHWB) has controlled every
clandestine (hidden from view) and secret organization/operation within
the arsenal of the United States government as either 1) Director of the
CIA, 2) Vice President to Ronald Reagan (who was an unwitting puppet to
the Bush controlled cabal – GHWB secretly gave Reagan poisons that
hastened his fall into Alzheimer’s Disease and evidence suggests he
helped plan Reagan’ attempted assassination by John Hinckley, whose
family were close friends of the Bush family – a coincidence?) and 3)
ultimately as President of the United States before Bill Clinton took
office.

Clinton’s election was a planned transition of power to allow the NWO or
New World Order advocated by Bush, Sr., to solidify and move forward
after a more suitable puppet was elected President to carry out the New
World Order Agenda (NWO) agenda – our current president, Barack Hussein
Obama. Your deduction is right, GHWB left office willingly to promote
the NWO by having Clinton elected (electronic voter fraud) and Perot
neutralized! This is the power they currently possess. They are
amazingly ruthless and efficient while amazingly arrogant and stupid at
the same time.

Julie has mentioned that happening too. Sorry. I've purchased every
brand sold at my stores and have never had a problem like that. I
have zero idea why it happened. Maybe they were packaged too hot.

That is the only brand of raw ones I can get here. The Costco packages are
cheap but I think there are something like 50 in the package. Even the
smaller packages have too many in there for me. Says to use up something
like 6-7 days after opening. I can't eat them fast enough.

I don't pay any attention to those recommendations. I leave 'em in the
fridge until they're either too stale to fold or moldy. Then I buy new
ones. That rarely happens; I generally get 10-packs of tortillas made
locally and can get through the entire pack.

I don't buy or eat a lot of tortillas but what you say is true, Steve.
The packages I buy, first of all I make sure they're sort of loose and
floppy in the bag so you can tell they aren't stuck together. (First
great recommendation for KenK.)

Secondly, yes, do repackage them in zip locks (if they don't already
come in a resealable package. Third, if they seem to be a bit dried out
yes, run some water over them. Pardon the pun, but tortillas are pretty
flexible. :)

I drank some milk yesterday that had a date stamp three days past the

The dates are purely a guideline, not a mandate. They give some guy on

I must be getting really fresh tortillas because they don't need
to be rehydrated. I might warm them in a dry pan, or more often
just set them right on top of the burner for a few seconds on
each side. Li'l Guy and Perez brands are always very fresh, but
then those are also the ones that suffer most from packaging
issues.

I always warm them one way or another just so they handle well,
and they taste better warmed up.

I don't even oil them. I grasp the thawed package at about 9 o'clock
and 3 o'clock and flex the package a few times. They separate easily.
The key is to get a flexible package of tortillas in the first place.
(I'm talking the large package with 2 packages inside from Costco) I
always immediately put the second package in the freezer. I have an
area in my freezer that I keep for bread goods. Everything there is
double bagged.

This particular post references an article by Stew Webb, a contributor

In his life-time, George H. W. Bush (GHWB) has controlled every
clandestine (hidden from view) and secret organization/operation within

neutralized! This is the power they currently possess. They are
amazingly ruthless and efficient while amazingly arrogant and stupid at

I freeze packages of 80 corn tortillas, but not flour tortillas. Yes,
they freeze together, but pop off easily one by one by inserting the tip
of a chef's knife in the seam between the top two and twisting slightly.

did you buy the ones from the fridge cases, or off the aisle shelves?

I get the fridge ones, keep in the bag they came in plus another ziplock oever that - they last for months.

Absolutely!

If you zap them briefly as wrapped 10-15 seconds in the microwave they
should separate.

Also if you take them out of the pack, wrap in foil, but put a few drops
of water inside first, you can put them in a warm over (275F) for a few
minutes and they'll separate nicely.

But my favorite el cheapo tool is to heat in the microwave using:

http://www.amazon.com/IMUSA-MEXI-1000-TORTW-Tortilla-Warmer-8-5-Inches/dp/B00164SI8K

They'll keep nice and warm on the table and come apart easily for eating.

I have had the same problem and decided to start removing them from the package before I refrigerate them, flour them ever so lightly with flour hands and put them back in the package. Works like a charm. I have them around for two to three weeks and are fine. It only takes a couple of minutes. Cheers!

I've seen various methods suggested for separating tortillas that glom together and some (to my experience) are better than others. However, I just found the most effective way yet.

Take your unopened package(s) of tortillas and place in the sunlight. Depending on ambient conditions, the number of tortillas in the package, and whether the tortillas are frozen or not, the tortillas will be ready to separate in a half-hour or so. The tortillas should feel warm before you try to separate them.

I leave packages of one dozen tortillas in the sun for about 15 minutes, then turn over the package and let it soak up the sun for another 15 minutes. It seems that this methods warms the tortillas more gently and evenly than the microwave's defrost setting. They end up very easy to separate; with almost no cling at all. The result is tortillas that separate very cleanly and easily.

My guess is that humans would be dead within 6 months. On a lighter subject, here's what I had for dinner. For folks that hate pot roast, I offer my apologies in advance.

Food of the Gods man! The best thing about meatloaf is that everybody makes it differently. I suppose that's also the worst thing about meatloaf. :)

The next time I make pot roast, I'll make some bread. That's a good idea.
